    Default Old Router as switch?

I'm a cheap fuck and want to use my old Netgear router as a switch (DG834G), Any idea if this is possible?

I've done this a few times, just make sure to turn off dhcp.

Just trun off dhcp (and wireless if not needed)

A lot of routers have one desgnated 'WAN/Internet' port, leave that one empty

if you are just using it as a switch then all of the 'non wan/internet' ports are the same.

So you have your adsl/cable modem connects to your router (if its not built in) and then onto a port of your switch you should now have 3 free ports for your extra connections

Still can't get it to connect. Could it be that I'm using a wifi to ethernet adapter? That adapter has connected to the network fine though . Could I use one of the spare ethernet ports for Internet sharing on my PC so spread it that way?

WiFi -> PC -> Ethernet -> Router -> Other Devices

You should be able to go :-

    Internet -----router--------Wifi------PC
    |
    'old router'--------other devices
