Before I plug it in?
Bought a new fridge freezer that should arrive next week. I seem to remember you had to let them stand before you plugged them in. Is this still the case or can I plug the bastard in as soon as it arrives.

You are supposed to let it stand.. but I didn't works fine
I was advised to when we moved the last couple of times and I didn't either - fridge works fine.
I got one just before xmas and was told let it stand for 4hrs.
Ive usually plugged it in after a couple of hours got this on a quick search but as it hasnt being layed down wont really apply
A refrigerator compressor is filled with hydrobenzoline oil... this is a lubricant for the compressor... When you lay the refrigerator down that oil will run up into the refrigerant lines... If you stand it up and plug it in right away, the compressor will pump the oil further into the refrigerant lines... This will cause the compressor to be operating without lubrication... In turn will cause your compressor to possibly burn out... That's why 24 hrs is needed after laying the refrigerator down... But by tilting the refrigerator during moving it, will not cause any oil to leave the compressor... So I would say you are safe to plug it in...

some of them are different bert some need 24hrs and others need a few/couple. the idea is for the gas to settle again cause of transit.
And from the manual which I have just downloaded form the Samsung site it states the following -
Allow an adequate space and install the fridge/freezer on a firm, level floor.
• If the appliance is not level, there may be unusual noises and poor cooling.
• Wait for at least one hour before plugging the appliance in.
Its purely for the oil to settle back into the compressor, sod all to do with the refrigerant.
Let it stand for a few hours, thats all you'll really need mate.
Mike.
4 hours i had to let my whirlpool stand for, same as my dehumidifier

Turn it on it's side, and leave for 27 minuets. Kick it repeatedly during the process with wellies on.
Tip it up the other way for about 14 minutes then let it fall flat on it's front. Then plug it in.
If it doesn't work, it's clearly a dud and just send it back.
