    Default network printer problems

    Hi all
have just purchased a canon np 560 wireless printer and have set it up but am having some problems getting one of the pc's in the house to print to it. The 2 other pc 's are fins , one xp pro and one vista and were just plug nad play. I also have a windows xp media centre pc which will not find the printer when searching or even ping it. The printer shows up fine in dos net view command and all file sharing is fine and can access the pc from other pcs on the network etc etc and i can also ping other pcs from the media centre pc but it just wont let me access the printer or ping it. Anyone any clues. I think it might be a compatibility issue with media centre and printer but both manfacturers say all operating systems work fine. Have no firewall on media centre pc.

    Cheers

Not quite sure what's going on there - would you be able to use any of the computers as a print server - i.e. share out the printer from a pc, then attach the mce pc to that share?

Are you wired to the router or wireless, I've got the same printer and my wired pc wouldn't connect to it, the laptop was fine, I just put a usb wireless dongle in my pc when I want to print.

Thanks for the replies. The problem pc is using wireless but i do have the option of using the router as web server , but really defeats the object of buying a wireless printer and i will also have to have a usb cable from router to printer

mine's connected via the router, and the only cable in the printer is the power cable.

On the problematic PC can you access the printers IP using your browser? Are the functional PCs connected over wireless?

I have a HP wireless printer which connects to my router (wireless) then it is shared, so my computers only need to be connected to my router (again wireless) and they can print. The add printer wizard was unable to connect it sometimes so I added the printer manually as a local TCP/IP port, type in the printers IP and make a port name up if the printers config pages don't have one for you, then it should work fine.

Thanks all...have eventually sorted it. There were some remains of mcaffe on the pc which after a bit of manual deleting has reolved all the problems.. all good now.

    Thanks all for the replies.
