I've been in the US these last two weeks, and despite this obvious gaff I was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm shown by many younger Americans towards football. Almost everyone I spoke to was planning on watching their team play, and most had chosen second teams. Surprisingly Holland seemed to be a popular choice amongst Yanks.
Some put the renewed interest amongst Americans down to Beckham and his spell at the LA galaxies, whilst others pointed to the huge number of Latinos in major metropolitain areas and their increasing spending power.
