    Help [Vista] Unidentified network

Hello. Today my step sister came to me and told me her laptop wouldn't connect to the internet. When I came to it, it said 'local only' and Unidentified network in network & sharing center.
I googled 'Unidentified network vista' and got a few results but none of them actually applied to this case. The laptop was previously taken to a technician to try and be fixed and it connected to the technicians internet fine... which means it only happens on this network.
There are around 3-4 other computers connected to the network and they aren't having any problems so it's obviously something to do with this PC.

I looked in device manager to see if it didn't have some drivers and it didn't so I updated them.. and it still doesn't work so I take it that it isn't a driver problem. I also checked to see if it was set to DHCP and it was.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like the DHCP is not finding a valid IP address.

Specify one on the same IP ranges as the router and see if that connects.
I never use DHCP for that exact reason.

If that doesnt solve it reinstall the LAN/WLAN driver...

If all else fails - Ditch Vista (shocked she still has it!) and upgrade to Windows 7!

Its a connection issue with the router.

can be a number of things.
    Firstly restart the router.
Check IP settings are auto. (Wireless adapter > Support)
Delete and recreate the wireless profile. (Network Centre > Profiles delete)
Scan again and connect to the router put in Key.

if you need me to elaborate on any of the above just let me know

run cmd in elevated mode (right click and run as administrator)

    then type: netsh winsock reset
