My Desire was originally on T Mobile, question: where do HTC phones get their updates from, is it the HTC Server independently of provider? If rooted and debranded do they then grab the update from a central server. Perhaps HTC hold all the updates for different providers?
I ask because T Mob are sooo slow at this stuff and the Desire is (according to the latest rumours) due in August.

As I understand it, all updates come from your Network operator unless you bought a unit direct, then the updates come OTA from HTC.

Once running a custom ROM though you don't receive OTA updates from anywhere but can apply the update from HTC by downloading it from them and applying offline via USB.

since i rooted mine and put 2.2 on, the first few days the battery life seemed much better, since yesterday its seemed a little temperamental and every time i load my task killer theres loads of stuff loaded that ive never even used. Its probably just the task manager reporting wrong but its annoying.

After a LOT of searching and reading and searching and reading I found an idiots guide to the One Click system:

    http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desi...ur-htc-desire/

I am installing LeeDroid V1.6 and am currently on pins hoping this doesn't feck up on me.
Wow .. 2 minutes and LeeDroid is installed .. rebooting .. I fear the worst .. and then jump outta my fookin skin as the new HTC startup robot noise explodes from my rooted phone!

All done .. now sleep time and play in the morning.

    Thanks guys

Nice one i've managed to root my phone now Just need to wait for it to charge before I can put a new rom on it.

Do you need to update the radio on the LeeDroid v1.6 rom? What does updating the radio actually do? Does it mean the FM radio or something a bit more serious?

Well that was pretty painless. I didn't bother backing my phone up just my contacts. I thought it will be a good time to have an app clean out. Seems OK so far. The only problem with rooting and installing Froyo is that not all app's work with Froyo yet doh

Done and dusted, running Froyo with sense, just set it up as a wireless hotspot, simples!

You will need the latest radio with that Rom. Apparently if you are on Orange it will lock the phone so be careful

The new roms have a few extra tweaks in them. Lees has a dif battery icon which I like and some task killers built in. I've installed shootem which let's you take screen shots. The Chrome to phone add on is a cool Froyo feature, I sent over my links over to add as bookmarks.

I really want a car mount to try the new car dock. One that leaves the camera showing so I can make some HD films of my fav routes would be good as well
