Help '06 Mitsubishi Colt CZ2 - Airbag Warning light no

Missus has a 1.5 Colt CZ2 (diesel) and while we were in france a couple of weeks ago the airbag warning light appeared on the dash indicating a fault on the drivers airbag. It was ok the night before when we parked it up but came on and stayed on when I started it up the following afternoon (outside temp was about 26 degrees and nice hot sunshine so interior of the car was pretty warm) and it's been on all the time the engines running for 2 weeks now

Any common faults/causes of this that are easily sorted "DIY"?

Somebody with more knowledge might be able to help you with a computer fix where you can reset the light to see if it was just a fluke, but don't touch or try to touch the physical airbag in any way. They are packed with explosives to make them pop out and if one goes off in your face your willy will fall off, or so the mechanic health and safety people say.

If this was on a VAG car there is an application that's easy enough to reset the airbag light with. Although I drive a Jap car now I'm not sure if an equivalent exists.

I'd try going to an independant specialist and seeing if they can reset it for you, the VAG ones easily come on if you hit a bump or such ... my lowered Ibiza used to get it regulary. Think it's all down to something moving outwith a sensors ideal range.

If nobody here knows, might be worth doing a search on a Mitsi forum.

Pull the code off it, this method will work with Evo's & older Colts, but not totally sure if it will work with a CZ2.

Use a bit of wire to short out pins 1 & 14 together on the OBD port, then put the ignition to point 2, but don't actually start the engine.

Watch the dash lights, they should begin to flash, constant flashing means nothing, but if it flashes in a special sequence you have an error. Long flashes are 10's and short flashes are 1's.

So if the engine management light flashes 3 long and 5 short, that is error code 35, which will relate to a specific fault that you can look up online.

    OBD connector pinout....

If you were a bit nearer I could have hooked up EvoScan and checked for stored diagnostic codes. Failing the above, take it to Mitsu and get them to run diagnostics on it, but if you do take it to them, expect a right 'ol shafting!

You can always join up and ask on coltuk.org??
