Default dvd rom making slicking sounds when loading disc

I have a pioneer 116 dvd drive in my cpu that isn't even 6 months old, but it has recently started making a 'clicl-click' noise when loading a disc. When I put a disc in it sounds as if some of the cogs that move the laser across the cd are skipping against each other. It makes that noise every time I put a cd in, but other than that the drive appears to be working ok, although it seems a bit pickier about cheap discs. Anyway, can someone shed some light on the origin of this problem, and if there is any way to fix it? Thanks for the help.

it's the laser trying to focus on the disk surface it's usually a sign it's on it's way out apart from trying to clean it there's not a lot can be done about it
