First DSLR pics

Bought my first ever DSLR the other day (as mentioned in the camera hardware forum section recently). I'm a bit of a novice but out of a hundred or so pics from the walk we went on today I liked these the pics the best, let me know what you think and any tips for improving these sort of shots would be appreciated! Cheers.

first 2 are alright, third one is a bit pointless to me, unless you are into weird red balls on wooden..things.

If you want to improve your shots, the quickest and easiest thing to learn is the rule of thirds.

agree with 909 there, lots of tutorials and reading mate, not a bad start with the 1st two though

I like the extra seedhead in the top one.

Rule of thirds is a compositional thing, and will help you a lot to "see" better image in the viewfinder.
