There all originals that im putting on, just dont want to scratch them.
I work away from home a lot so its much handier (and tidier) to take a HDD rather than games in boxes.

No what i mean,
start cfg usbloader
point the wii mote at the screen and press +
put game into drive
usb loader should copy game from disk to HDD
when finished try and play the game off the HDD
see what it does?

HI,
No real issues to be honest with you, as long as you haven't had cioscorp installed.
What exactly are you wanting to do, play backup discs or Play off Usb HDD?
Don't forget to do a Nand Backup if you haven't already, Do you mean your on 3.1 and Have a 4.1 Softmod pack?
You could always run signcheck or dopiosmod(scan wii internals option) and post the results you we can see where yor wii is at.
Have a look at post 7 on this thread hope that helps.
Regards

Thanks for the reply,
The Wii has never being connected to the internet and is about 3 years old so got Firmware Version 3.1
i ran the softmod 4.1 on it and has being running ok occasional crash.
So was wanting to put the new softmod on.
but little unsure what i need to do.
being reading though post 7 and getting a little confused.
Internet Connection
An active internet connection is required for the Firmware updater.
Never Update online
Updating online will remove all softmods; bootmii included, and could brick your Wii.
Don't do this unless you're instructed to do so by a forum mod
i need to play games from the hard drive as the cd drive longer reads disk thats the main reason i softmoded.
So do i just format a SD card load the files on and run thought the all the options in
Wii Softmodding for Dummies v4.1 guide ?
how do i update the firmware?
Sorry for being such a nob
can you link that guide to me.
If you download the files i linked to then you are better off following my guide, However one thing i don't understand is, you softmodded to 4.1 yet your on firmware 3.1?
Do you have a internet connection?
As for updating online - we use the safe updater, which doesn't install the harmful files or updates that a wii system or game update does.
Basically you need to do steps 1,4 & 6 to start off with.
Regards
ok thought i would have a go using this guide on a m8's wii as i did mine over xmas using another guide (can't remeber which one) anyway when using the files posted in this guide when i stick the card in rather than come up with the scam msg it just comes up with a question mark on one of the channels. Using the sd card that i did mine with using the other guide the scam msg pops up ready to go so what am i doing wrong with these files?

Looks like you are using the wrong Bannerbomb exploit for your firmware version.
I believe 1.08 if for <=4.1 and 2.00 is for 4.2
Someone correct me if I'm wrong
Nintendo closed the original exploit in 4.2, hence the update to *ahem* re-update it.

your correct mate, heres the link tells you what one to use for the firmware just use the correct version http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/
Hi Lord Vader,
Just checked the downloads and the bannerbomb files seem fine, so it looks like you have the wrong bannerbomb for the system menu like z3spacial & mrbongo suggest.
Just swop the private folder with the one in the alternative folder.
This is FREE, you only need the ability to read and follow instructions.

Not only is it FREE, it gives you far more functionality than a mod chip. The USB Loader alone makes it worth the effort. No more disc burning and faster loading, transforms the system IMHO.

Im about to buy a black wii,
I have found these guides really confusing.
Is there any issues with a new wii before modding.
I would seriously stay away from chipping your Wii. I know you found your answer, but chipping it means opening and soldering/changing it, then you still have to burn off loads of DVD-R's.
Pointless if you get this working correctly.... It's the Dog's Danglies!
Mines Black. No issues at all so long as you know in advance the firmware loaded to it prior to installing HomeBrew.
I've modded about 10 Wii's since Xmas, not one has gone wrong. If you need help once you get your Wii, shout me!
My Wii loads directly into Wii Flow (nowhere near the Wii Menu) and works perfect. Wii Flow IMO is the best looking Loader and is easy to sort so long as you start with a fresh HDD, if you already formatted to Fat32, it's a pain in the arse, but doable! (Need to format and copy all the games off).
The above is not as confusing as it sounds once you've done it once or twice.
--EDIT--
Incase anyone is interested I learnt how to do everything using another guide here (As prolly did you if you forgot from where). I'm not trying to ruin the new DF guide written by Renke_Uk, just explaining another place for further reading - and perhaps another resource for Renke_Uk to implement into his guide. Instead of CFG USB Loader, I installed WiiFlow...
