Sorted it ...changed the config.txt for cfg USB loader to use cios223 rather than 249.
All ISOs loading fine now.

I think that's what I had to do to get Black Ops working via CFG Loader.

hi guys
Ive soft modded the kids wii. 4.3e, everything works fine with back up discs. however I want to run some games off an external harddrive. an Iomega prestige 250gb portable. Ive checked the compatibility list in the other thread, and it says that is compatible with usb loader. this is good news. However I cant seem to get this step correct when trying to run a game from usb.
I tried a game from an 8gb usb stick, I formatted to fat32, didnt put any partition in, as i figure i didnt need one, as nothing else would be on the stick, but usb loader Gx or any other program wouldnt play it, USB loader showed that space was taken on the stick, but wouldnt list it as an option. I used imgburn to rip the iso from a disc to usb to try it.
does it matter which usb port you plug into? also the Iomega prestige HDD has 2 usb connectors to allow it run, can i plug both usb connections into the back of the wii?
I was gonna put backup disc in the wii, and try to copy to usb, I understand this can be done through one of the programmes.
I'm a bit lost. can anyone assist..
cheers
steiff.
I'm a bit lost.
Hi Steiff1
when i added a hard drive to my wii it had to be plugged into the port nearest the base of the console,
i also formatted and added iso's to the drive using WBFS Manager 3.
i didnt use renki's guide but used letter bomb to soft mod my wii.
hope this helps a little.

Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes
update,
I managed to finally format the external HDD using WBFS manager. ( had to format from a CMD line and dismount the drive - a right faff).
And im now copying a downloaded Iso to the HDD through WBFS manager ( I left it running before i went to work). so hopefully the wii should pick up the drive and game and allow it to play. unless ive missed something out of course.
Ive tried to copy a disc to a USB, through the wii, usb GX showed the existence of the file on the usb but wouldnt pick it up to play it. So need to do further investigation on how to get the iso from a disc to the usb.. maybe another go with imgburn?
steiff1,
which USB Loader are you using?
I remember doing mine with wiiflow and if I copy images to the HDD with the WBFS Manager then plug the drive into the Wii, it picks everything up no problems. that's using a 1TB Maxtor (Yes, I know!) external drive but it's no hassle

you know that a max iso size of 4 gb is only able to work on a fat32 drive, thats why we format to wbfs so it will read the games over 4gb in size,
just an idea bud.

so me formatting to wfbs is the right step then? I mean for Iso's lower than 4gb in size, they will also be read?
Ive got usb gx, wiiflow and configurable usb all loaded onto the wii, and have tried them all, it may be down to me not using them properly, but i dont think it is.
using the discs works great with neogamma, id just like to get them onto usb rahter than using discs all the time.
Hi.I've just followed the guide (thanks Renke) and done my mates Wii which was on v3.3. I've done the offline up date to 4.2E and we've been running games from a HDD using configurable usb loader and it works fine. However when we put a disc in, it makes a hell of a noise and won't recognise the disc. The discs are originals, not backups. To me it sounds like a physical problem rather than software but I thought I'd ask.
Cheers
my inlaws wii has started to do this and I have finally convinced them to hack it as the discs keep getting stuck, I cant imagine how any software change would have had an effect on your drive tbh
I've just replaced the DVD drive but now I'm getting error 1167. Any idea why?

Soft Modding has nothing to do with the DVD drive.
This tutorial is for running games directly from a USB Hard Drive.
Are you trying to read copied discs on a Soft Modded Wii or do you have a 'hardware' chip in your Wii?
Soft modding makes no changes to any hardware whatsoever.
But there is a much easier, more up to date way of modding your WII with MODMII.
You simply get asked a few questions, fill out correctly, once it knows all the info it downloads and prepares your SD card for you.
All explanations to your problem are all pointing towards either a dead drive or an out of date version of NEOGAMMA.
Use ModMii to Mod your Wii, going over the top of what you have already done will be fine, but make sure you still have you NAND Backup saved just in case.
ModMii will do everything for you (pretty much) and will get everything working correctly (hopefully).
I've modded lots of Wii's using ModMii and not one has failed so far...!

Right, I've gone over the top with MODMII and now I can't load from usb and the disc drive still doesn't work. It updated the version of configurable USB loader and now when I try and load a game I get an IOS reload blocked error. I've read a few other forums an they mention d2x cios v6. Anyone have any ideas what to do? Can I update the version to V4.3 (it's currently 4.2) and try again? Any help would be appreciated!
I had a wii and was able to play all the games from HDD. My son updated it and now i cant play from the hdd, I have tried 3 different drives and no joy. I re did the soft mod 3 times and still wont work. It loads backups via dvd but thats it. Any ideas guys?
Try MODMii. Solved loads of update issues for me.
