    Default Ipod Touch Dead

I have been given a 2g Itouch by a friend to fix.

Basically it died while he was watching a film, and now will not turn on or do anything. When plugged in to charge nothing shows on the screen, etc....

When put in DFU mode, it shows up on itunes and it says it needs restored.

I point it to the ipsw file, and it goes through the motions as far as 'preparing the ipod for restore', and then throws up the fault

this ipod could not be restored, an unknown error occured (1601)

I have done a search on google, but so far nothing I found has helped.

    Any help appreciated

    thanks

Are you throwing it the right IPSW? Mine did that and I was told to upgrade to 4.0 then come back down to 3.1.3 - careful as I've not been able to come down from 4.0 yet.

You have to do something with the hosts file here:
    C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

open up the hosts in notepad and a line of text at the bottom:

    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

Apparently this looks elsewhere than the apple site to verify the IPSW.

Hope that's some insight, I've still to do mine fully. I've jailbroken mine on 4.0 after following this link:

    Regards,
    BFG.

Apparently I don't have my shsh's stored locally/anywhere, so it looks like I'm stuffed on 4.0
*edit* may have misunderstood this, I think this is just for the phone... not applicable to the touch.

Maybe take it to a apple shop and see if they will do it there for you.
