ebay Have I been ripped off through eBay/PayPal?

Not sure if this is the right section but here goes ...

I sold a brand new Xbox 360 Premium through eBay on Saturday.

The buyer asked a question about 10 minutes before the auction ended, they claimed that my description was wrong and that the Xbox 360 Premium should have a bigger hard drive than 20Gb. Unfortunately I wasn't able to respond to the question as I was out and about.

    Their exact question was:
"how is this premium with a 20gb hardrive wtf"

However the same guy won the auction at £87 + £10 delivery.

I sent an invoice through eBay and thanked them for winning the auction .. I asked if he still had a problem with my description, I included some URL's to sites that listed the differences between the 360 Premium and the Elite .. I suggested they should contact me if they had any issue.

The day after I get an email through PayPal telling me that I have funds but that they would be held until the buyer confirmed they had recieved the item or they had left me positive feedback.

I checked my PayPal account and sure enough the funds were there so I booked TNT to pick the item up and deliver it.

They came today at 11:30am and collected the item.

At 12:55pm I recieved this email from PayPal:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We need more information about this transaction. Please log in to your

If you need to provide information by fax, click and print a cover sheet.

Please fax proof of postage or proof of refund to 08707 303 196.

We recommend that you do not post the item until our investigation is

    where you posted it.

We have placed a temporary hold on the funds until we complete our
    investigation.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've logged into my PayPal account and there is a dispute listed to which:

I have sent them my invoice from TNT.
I have sent them the tracking URL and number.

I have no idea whether I've been ripped off or not .. any ideas anyone??

Click on the transaction in paypal and see if it says seller protection eligible. As long as that says yes and you shipped to a confirmed address in paypal you should be covered. Has the item been received and signed for? Can you make out the name on the sig?

Clicked on the transaction in PayPal and don't see seller protection eligible anywhere, it does however say it is a confirmed address.

I login to PayPal and it lists all my recent transactions.
    In the list is:

Date Type Name/Email Payment Status Details Order status Gross
8th Aug Payment From Mr eBay Buyer Held Details £97.00

I click on Details and it simply lists the basic transaction details.

Will be fooking furious if I've been ripped for £100 .. because this is down to PayPal not me.

*I had nice spaces in between the words that laid it out better .. the forum has taken them out

If you want PM me the buyers name / door number and postcode and I'll run it through our system to see if there a fraud flag attached to it if not give you the information we keep about the the person / address.

    Edit:

    Just as a heads up.

    www.chargebackfile.com

You can register for free at Global Chargeback Registry to see if there has been any problems with the buyers Paypal Account before. Its only one of many checks we carry out.

Interesting, I'm itching to know what they've got on me... But I'll have to hold back the temptation! PMSL!

Well, the package was delivered and signed for by someone yesterday and I have sent all the details to PayPal but they have yet to even confirm that they have looked at it.

I got an email from eBay last night at about 11:00pm:

Our records show that member klarajen recently won one of your items. We'd like to let you know that eBay has cancelled all this member's bids due to issues relating to their account.

As the buyer is no longer a registered user, you are no longer obliged to complete the sale. We recommend that you don't post the item or respond to further emails from the buyer.

If someone asks you to continue with the sale outside of the eBay platform, we strongly recommend you ignore the request. Transactions completed outside of eBay aren't protected by our Feedback system.

In some cases, sellers have reported receiving an email indicating that they have received payment by PayPal, but in fact this is a fake message. We recommend logging into your PayPal account to confirm that payment was actually received. For more information on spoof messages, please go to:

    .. blah blah
    Bit too fooking late now!

Guess it's just a waiting game for my money

    Sorry to hear that.

Give Paypal a ring using this number

    0208-605-3000 Option 1

And asked the to release the money as you have online tracking.

The only other reason they can now still keep the money is if the card they used was stolen or their is a charge back.

    Hi Jon,

I tried calling them earlier and it's just an automated line that kept me going around in circles.

I tried the number you gave and it's the same automated line that requires me to enter a webpin (which you get from the PayPal site when you jump through the hoops from the contact page).

I'm posting on the PayPal forum to hopefully get some answers.

It's actually very easy to contact them getting via the webpin, I've done it several times.
    If at first you don't succeed.....redefine success. . . .

Yes, I managed to call them and typed in my webpin, that's not an issue, it's when it asks what your call is regarding, it gives you a list of options .. then based on my input regarding holds, reversals and reserves it then gives a recorded message saying that I should login to the paypal site and use that to check the status of the claim.

So basically I can use the automated service but it won't put me in touch with an operator.

Does that make you a seller to avoid or just an unlucky buyer ?

    Just a quick update.

I finally got an email today from PayPal today telling me that they had finished their investigation and the money was in my account.

It's taken over 2 weeks for them to do it but they've finally coughed up.

I won't be able to get the money in the bank in time for my hols on Sunday but at least I've got it.

Thanks for the advice guys and big thanks to JonEp
