    Default Video editing software advice

Recently started putting videos together for a group of us that are into R/C cars but am really struggling to find an application that can do it all.

At the moment I'm using Macromedia Flash for titles and credits as it's about the best and easiest thing I have. For the video editing I'm using the Windows moviemaker which is actually not too bad for short clips and things but I really want something that I can take a selection of frame, do slomos, copy and paste parts of video etc. so any suggestions would be greatly received.

Recently got Adobe CS5 but Premier needs x64 and I can't use x64 versions of windows due to some hardware issues that I have come across with my lappy and I remember the last time I used the Adobe Suite and it was just a monster!!!

Get a 32bit of Premiere mate, CS4 will do.
Great bit of software runs p[erfectly for me, even with large clips (1hr+) it runs smooth as silk.

Does have a bit of a habit of crashing on export until you find the right settings via tweaking.

Can be found in the usual places

EvilBob if you know how to use the "usual places" grab both of em mate, I'm used to Premiere but I have a mate who uses Vegas and he swears by that.

Try em both for an hour and see which you prefer.

There are also loads of video tutorials for both in the "usual places"

I've actually been pretty impressed with VirtualDub in the past, free too.

My most recent clips have been movie maker though.

Premiere for intuitive learning. Or Final cut Pro if you're on a Mac.

There is, or at least WAS a free version of AVID media composer, which is Brodcast industry standard available from Avid's website.

My problem is that I want to do some of the more advanced effects. I've started using Adobe Premiere and am really liking it. One of the effects I was really after doing was what I call "super slow mo" like they have in the Sky adverts over summer. I've managed to get it working using Twixtor to do the tweening and some of the more advanced stuff.

The other applications here are good but the Adobe suite really does give you ultimate power and there are loads of plugins out there to help you out.

    +1 for premiere.

I used twixor a while back, good pluging but had issue with the quality when you were outputting dvd quality, so stopped using it, apparently it was a common problem and a lot of people had the same issues. Hopefully its been fixed and works with high quality outputs.

red giant have some really good plugins...
    http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/supp...-applications/
and a lot of them work on premiere.

Nice one. Yeah the Twixtor pro seems pretty good. My video source is off a DVD camcorder so it's 480p and it seems to work pretty well but obviously not HD. I don't think I've put any up on youtube yet of the super slow-mo stuff.

Here's the sort of vid that I capture : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_tAoMs5tXQ

This was done by a number of people so the quality of the filming varies quite a lot. Getting the slow mo to work is a real pain though as these cars can get up to about 70 or 80 mph for the electric ones and about 50mph for the nitros and petrol ones and the camera doesn't have the frame rate to be able to collect enough frames close enough together so you get a bit of artifacting with tweening.

Oh and watch out the final seconds where we broke a LiPo battery. lol - glad we had a fire extinguisher with us.

no you will need to use premiere cs4 on a 32bit machine, cs5 premiere and after effects are only 64bit.

Thanks for the reply - will have to do a search for it to get the full versions on the net somewhere, as won't be able to afford buying it.

I have been using CS4 and trying to get to grips with it. It is a great bit of software. Although I am having problems when exporting the video as it comes out looking like a thumnail with a black frame around it. I have already posted here in the PC Software section for help - I can't understand what settings are effecting it.

    Thanks,
    Scarface

    Maybe this will help.
Obviously is you're not using full hd, then use the correct resolution that you want.

YouTube - How to export in FULL HD for YouTube in Premiere Pro!

Thank you so much for sending me the above clip - very useful settings.

After setting the video as per you tube instructions I still get the border in the sequence. It took abot 45 mins to encode.

The link below shows where I have uploaded the video to, through you tube, but get that annoying black frame all around the footage of the video. Unless there were meant to be some settings changes that needed to be made to the actual sequence before exporting it - I have no idea

    http://www.urjashakti.com/?p=104

Would like to get rid of the black frame and just have the footage, so that it can be seen as you would normally on screen - large.

    Thanks,
    Scarface

    Hi,

Would anyone please be kind enough send me a PM with a bit of info on where the "usual places" are? I am a bit novicey at this stuff and think that I need something like Adobe Premiere CS4 (32bit) but have not got a clue about where to get it from and am a bit nervous about some of the download sites.

    Any tips most appreciated

I have tried a few for rendering video's of game footage. Power Director 9 is quite good, but then I found fantastic render settings for Vegas Pro 10 so i'm back using that now.

Pinnacle is another fantastic video editing application.
