came home to find my pc with xp stuck on blue screen.
Stop Error 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524, 0XC0000034
restarted it and now it just reboots even in safe mode.
Any pointers, tried different graphics card but no difference.
try a repair install of windows always does the trick for me
Try pressing F8 on start up (the first black and white scrren - but not always) if you get the bar and Winfows XP loading you have gone to far resart Ctrl+Alt+Del and then when start up otion appeer, select the last know .... and should restart in a working condition.
If not again F8 then select Safe Mode, this should get the pc to start.
Why do you think iys you grapphic card? if you have just installed or updated driver/sofware use safe mode and uninstall driver and use aad/remove hardware and agin restart.
Could go on, but try the above and let us know the results
Known as TC to his friends, he resides in a dustbin, where he gets as much sleep as he can.
Stop Error 0X0000007B means you have an inaccessible boot device.
This can be caused by a number of things such as a corrupt registry, corrupt/missing drivers that are needed for windows to boot, hardware failure, the list goes on and on.
Have you changed any hardware recently or updated any drivers or other software? If the answer to either of those questions is yes then either remove the offending piece of hardware or as Wompastompa suggested try running a windows repair using your install disc although in this case it's not likely to work.
If the answer is no then again try the repair option as it could simply be a file that is needed for windows to boot is corrupted in which case the repair option is more likely to work.
Actually thinking about it before you try any of that try running a chkdsk /f from the Windows Recovery Console (select the option when booting from your WinXP boot disk) this will attempt to repair/move corrupted files and could save you a lot of grief.
Cheers, does same in safe mode and all f8 modes.
As for repair install, thats when i get the same blue screen come up again when its on setup.
I have w7 which i can't do the dual boot option as it wants xp to boot first.
Only tried the graphics card as i had a spare, also tried memtest and thats ok.
When you boot off the WinXP disc press R to go to Repair and Recovery:
As it would appear you have a Dual-Boot system, you will need to select the WinXP installation from the list that comes up:
You should then be asked for an Administrator password, so you will need to know that.
After that you should see a command prompt, type chkdsk c: /f at the prompt (and press enter obviously), let it do it's thing and see what happens then.
It's down to hard drive controller drivers being screwed. Go into BIOS and see if your motherboard has an option to change the mode of the controller.
You may be able to switch between things like ACHI, IRRT and IDE mode. If you can then set it to IDE. This should then let you boot into windows. Re-install the ACHI/IRRT drivers and change the mode back in BIOS and you should be working at full speed again...
I don' t have a dual boot option, i was just going to do that to give me access to my folders.
But anyway, it never made it to the xp setup option to run chkdsk, but you did help me.
I booted with hirens bootcd and found ntfschkdsk on it, run that and it found some orphaned files which it put back in its correct place.
Restarted and i am on the offending pc writing this now.
So well pleased with all the help.
Do you think i should do anything now its working or leave it alone?
I would backup your important files and do a full scan of the hdd just to be on the safe side, other than that just carry on as usual and see how it goes, if you keep getting errors then do a re-install, if you don't then carry on as usual
