    PS3 Cinavia

Just got this message while streaming a vid to my PS3:

“Audio outputs temporarily muted. Do not adjust the playback volume. The content being played is protected by Cinavia™
and is not authorized for playback on this device. For more information, see http://www.cinavia.com. Message Code 3.”
Turns out Sony have added copy protection that won't let me watch my backed up Blu-rays and taken away the only thing I use my PS3 for.

Anyone else had this message and know of a workaround yet?

Anyone recommend a decent replacement? I've heard those popcorn hour things are pretty good?

    Thanks.

Backed Up Bluray's - hmmm think not - this has only just come out and is only been shown to be on a small number of titles - chances are its from a downloaded film.

All devices that follow come code will have this added to it - best to wait for ripping software that removes the DRM at that point rather than look for an alternative device that could end up having it on it too.

its on loads of titles, 'the losers' was the first blu ray to have it

all attempts to remove it have failed so far, including pitch shifting the entire audio track

It's part of the blu-ray spec and has been put on blu-ray devices manufactured since 2009.

What's the point waiting? I'd rather just buy something that works and sell the brick on ebay.

Just buy an older BR player that doesn't contain the new cinavia protection on it, and hope it lasts a while.
By then it should be cracked, it's just time.

Not all mkvs but some have this protection in the audio. Thew only workaround i know is playing 1.5 speed on a ps3 but to me that aint a workaround because it must surely make the film unwatchable.

Couldnt agree more, like you I only really used the PS3 as a media player, but wanted a decent one for a while. The revo is a bit of a bugger to set-up, but once sorted its the bollox. I swear its better quality, and being controlled from my iPhone is also pretty neat!

Yeah I'd spotted that thread but it's gone a bit cold recently.

A new PC isn't really on the cards at the minute. My TV doesn't support a 1080p signal from a computer so I need something that's capable of streaming... Or to buy a new TV too...

If you haven't upgraded your PS3 firmware to v3.15 you're in luck... If you upgrade past that version you install the cinavia shite...

yeah from what raelmadrid said there is no workaround at present. its sounds incredibly clever, its not some simple watermark that can be removed

What do you mean by "from a computer"?

As for cinavia, I use my PC for watching stuff so not an issue for me.
Pretty clever though, an inaudible watermark that survives transcoding, pitch shifting etc, another cat & mouse game...

Hopefully with this new ps3 dongle though somebody maybe able to remove that update or port something like xbmc and that will play these without any problem.

It supports a max res of 1920x1080 via HDMI from a PS3/X360 but only 1376x768 if the signal source is a PC. I dunno how the hell it can tell the difference...

Gonna create a test that mutes everything from 15 mins onwards to see if it still kicks in at 20mins or if it's made it's mind up earlier that it's gonna fuck me over around the 20 minute mark...

Well it seems like the watermark must be presented at certain intervals as the 1st 15 mins played fine and now it's at 25 mins without coming up with the message so can rule out the time delay theory... Must just be a signal embedded at certain intervals.
