example of the clock speed or the MB cache?
at the mo i'm stuck between choosing the core i5 650 3.20GHz 4MB L3 cache

MY BROADBAND IS LIKE A FERRARIBUT FITTED WITH A ROBIN RELIANT ENGINELOOKS GOOD BUT GOES NOWHERE!!
I guess it all depends on what performance you need vs your budget. The i7 870 is this quickest + it has 4 cores whereas the i5 650 is a dual core with hyperthreading.
There are plenty of benchmarking sites that will give you a better idea:

see i don't understand dual or quad apart from 2 and 4 ha ha, not sure what they do and how they are better mainly building for gaming got parts that come to £600+ and thats not inculding the case psu or software wanting windows 7 pro 64bit

A similar prinicpal to, if you had four cocks you could have four birds on you at once.
keeping to the same theme, I think he's asking if two big cocks are better performance wise than 4 small ones

You might want to have a look @ this:

it's roughly the same price as the i5 650 + it's a quad not dual cpu. Personally I'd go with a quad [i7 870 or 860]. That said, the difference between the two is only noticeable if the software - games & applications - is optimised for the extra cores - which isn't always the case.
