    Default Getting rid of wasps

I've just moved into a new house and today i noticed a hell of a lot of wasps swarming around the bins. Followed the wee shits to the eves above the kitchen and they're in and out like mad. I reckon its a fair sized nest looking at the number of them.

So, i want to get rid of them but I've got no idea where to start. Most of the advice I've found online covers underground nests but this one is elevated, inaccessible and I don't think it can be sealed up easily. I'm also not really interested in any 'humane' traps etc. that most sites seem to be selling, I want the fuckers dead in a pile asap.

    Anybody had any experience?

I've had a few in my roof, you can get a can now that you spray from up to 5 yards and it kills the nest, It worked fine on one I had this summer, sprayed from out the bedroom window and 2 days later no more wasps, the others I went in the roof and covered the nest in powder.

Don't use an aerosol and a lighter: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...-a-spider.html

I've seen good things said about this (I think it was this): http://www.killsbugsdead.com/fop_w_h_k.asp
But I would go with the advice to pay someone else to do it, while you stand about 10ft away with a cricket bat.

Just checked it is £24.45 here for them to come and sort a wasps nest for a domestic property (£55 for commercial) well worth it imo

Mine and the wifes bedroom is in our attic and for about 6 weeks she's been saying she could hear noises from behind the wall leading into the loft space on her side of the bed.
Eventually I decided to actually pay attention to her and put my ear to the wall....I shit myself when I heard the buzzing and sound of hundreds of wasps on the other side.

On Monday I nervously popped my head out of the lift window to see if I could see any wasps entering under the tiles and there were but I couldn't find the nest.

I bought some rentokill wasps nest killer powder from a garden centre and put my hoody on a pair of gloves and my lads Rey Mysterio mask.Tin of wasps spray in one hand powder in the other opened the window leaned out and hammered where they were going in with powder whilst holding them off with the spray like an insect killing billy the kid.

The whole thing took about 15 seconds before I had to dive back in and slam the window as about a thousand wasps started kicking off.Tuesday there were about 5 wasps and today I haven't seen or heard one.

I used to clear nests to earn a few quid, its a piece of piss so dont pay anyone.

Goto a shop like wilkos and get a cheap tub of ant powder, the type you squeeze and it is forced out (not an aerosol), find where the wasps are entering the buiding (just watch them for a while) and then spray a nice coating around the holes. do as many as you can, then go make a cuppa and come back in half an hour. The wasps should be gone, if not, do it again. You can then hunt out and destroy the nest, but it doesnt matter either way, i dont think wasps return to a dead nest.

That's what was worrying me. I had no idead if i'd have to rip the roof apart to get in at the nest. Hopefully not.

when we did some jobs, it wasnt possible to remove the nests, the fuckers get everywhere, especially in old houses and cottages. If we had to leave the nest, it can help to block the little holes they will have been using to enter so in future noting else can use the same space, if nothing else it would give the customer a bit of piece of mind.

    Tottaly agree with {909}
Ant powder around any areas where wasps seem to be entering the building, as they pass through, they carry the powder in to the nest and kill any wasps or larvae in the nest.

I've had to deal with 3 in the last 3 years and that method works a charm.

I had a wasps nest at the edge of my roof line a couple of weeks ago.

I called the council, they came round and took a couple of minutes spraying the area, they havent been back since and the council guaranteed that they wouldnt return in 30 days.

It was worth it but I'd try the ant powder next time before calling the council - good advice
