    Help toilet problem

    hi

i have a pipe at the front of my house which appears to be linked to the upstairs toilet

heres some pics to explain it a bit better

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/1136248...in/photostream

at the moment the water in the toilet is continually filling up and coming out the pipe at the front of the house

looking at the pics its very hard to get under the toilet to have a look as its tiled all the way round

down the side i can see a tube going into the toilet but its a very confined space

any ideas what causing the toilet to overflow all the time?

is it an easy part to change?

i think the main problem is actually getting to the pipes easily

the water stops flowing out of the big tube on top here

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/1136248...n/photostream/

but to the right where it looks like i would need a big plumbers spanner on to tighten up the water is coming out of the bottom of here all the time

the ball valve appears to be working fine i just have this constant trickle of water coming from the big white nut

I'm would think that the washer in the valve is perished, and needs changing. When u say big white nut, is this the nut on the ball valve?

You need a better pic of the water coming out.

If I get your drift here you need to tighten up the nut to the right. It should only be hand tight so it may need a new seal or you could take it apart and clean it up see if that works but based on your explanation I would recommend you get a plumber to do the job.

p.s if you do take it apart make sure you turn off the water to the toilet.

have pointed an arrow to where it is leaking

its constantly dripping out of the bottom of that

so even though the ball float stops the water coming out of the top pipe this is running in and causing the water to go into the overflow pipe on the left

    Yeah,

Tighten it up by hand, perhaps use a large adjustable(but I would not recommend it) but only a fraction of a turn as it's only plastic. If it wont stop then take it apart clean it up and get a new washer.

If you can't move it either way be very careful. It is likely full of limescale and could crack. Make sure you turn off the water supply to the cistern to reduce pressure against the fitting. Try to loosen it a fraction and then tighten
