    Help Snow Leopard issues

My new macbook pro is having an issue with installing snow leopard. I have the retail snow leopard family disc so all should be fine however i note there are some scratches on the disc. Half way through each install it throws a kernel panic and i have to remove the snow leopard disc to load back to OSX.

Can someone tell me if its successfully upgraded is there some where it will tell me its on snow leopard now? Is there a retails official apple snow leopard download if my disc needs scratch repairing i will do this but want to update the MBP now if possible.

    Any help ?

Just had a quick look - the newest I can see available from newsgroups is 10.6.3 but it would need a DL DVDR if that would help?
