Memory mixup

HI- I got a couple of 256mb sdram 133 dimm and have tried them in two p.c's and both read as 128mb - the chips are stamped 256 mb133 and all looks official - can memory chips develope a fault where only half the memory is accessed or is it a board compatibility problem - any help appreciated

A bit of both - sometimes 'older' machines are picky over what 256Mb dimms they see - try updating the BIOS.

But, yes, memory chips do go faulty so that they're only seen as half of what they are.
