I've added a 3rd option to your poll, because your second answer basically read as "he's racist he just doesn't vocalise it".

    My Dad isn't, thankfully.

well tbh the reason ive delved into this as every person who is over 50 is racist and in a political correct world they would be done for it ! some of the people i come across really do just think its ok .

Think the 2nd option on the poll should be "YES he just doesn't say anything"?

Mine aren't racist but do use words/phrases like "Paki shop" and "Fancy a chinky?" in general conversation, but I think that's more slang than racism.
They wouldn't be racist in hate or anything though.

I can pick a 'joke' out of each culture equally.
We respect and admire every culture and race that's on our earth, but some cultures and races including my own are much more an annoyance than others in certain ways.

Every culture and race needs fucking up and making fun of to save our sanity.

All Examples of 'racism' could fall on any culture or race so be comfortable who your with before having a laugh and joke about them all.

Racism is taken in context. everyone knows a sly racist joke with MALICE in the tone.

My Dad's only 57 so maybe a bit young for this, but he's certainly not some sort of racist. I can't think of many people aged below about 80 who are in fact. The old days of racism are dying out, and the elderly people who kept it going are getting older and older.

My grandparents were a little bit racist, but never in a way that would have any serious effect. It's just a different culture, where it was more acceptable. My granda was in the navy, travelled the world and worked with people from all over but he'd still say "get back in the trees!" if a black footballer fucked something up on the telly. I genuinely think he'd have still chosen the best person for a job regardless of where they were from though, it's a strong boundary between silly comments and genuine hate.

I think society is progressing back into jokey racism now, in the same way we can make jokey sexist comments or slag off people from other white countries. Loads of folk will sit in the pub and make slightly racist comments and jokes to asian friends now, in the same way as elderly people would have done. When society is sufficiently far removed from serious racism, jokes are just the same as nudging your welsh mate when you see a sheep on the TV or asking a woman to make you a sandwich when she tries to talk about football or politics.

My dad isn't racist. He has two mixed race grandkids and loves them dearly, though he didn't get on with my ex, but thats because she is a nasty, controlling freak more than anything. However, there is no doubt my dad is EXTREMELY xenophobic. He hates the French. He can give no reason, he just hates them. Hates anything to do with the EU too, votes UKIP without really having any idea why. He has a major problem with the French, he won't even have french mustard in the house or anything else he knows is French. He'd happily drive a Merc, BMW or even a Japanese car, but not French. A 2CV owning friend of mine was asked to remove his car from my parents driveway when we were younger. Madness. So its not racism, but xenophibia my olds suffer from. They are 70 next year for the record.

I guess it depends on environment and influence whilst growing up. If we were bought up with TV stuff like Alf Garnets antics and 'Love thy neighbour', Well I suppose it would probably have an effect on a certain amount of people. It was actually funny to watch the racist type in these programmes ending up being the ones to look fools though.

I personally think that racism is rife at the moment. I am UK white - born and bred. I have many work colleagues that are very racist, not just the odd joke, but really think that some ethnicities are less than human.

To keep on topic though, my father said to me that he shook the hand of Ghandi once when he was in Manchester. That was the most profound religious experience that he ever had. "he was a good man" he said. My father who loved the racist sit-coms in the 70's was the most un-racist person I have ever known. Apart from me.

One of the men I most admire is Lord (Bill) Morris. To come here from Jamaica in the 1950's & be elected to be a shop steward in a factory on Birmingham, and rise through the ranks of one the largest trade unions in the next 30 years to be the general secretary - I just don't believe there was as much spiteful racism back then as people might think, despite any "chalky" type stand up, Alf Garnett & Rising Damp.

He's got quite a background, which in a few ways I am/have also been linked to.

Racism shouldn't even be a real word..

    We all hate somebody

My grandads a racist because he probably used the word darky....He's dead now.

My dad is racist because he says let's go for a chinese...

I'm racist because I say "tundy" in jest or aks for a black coffee...

In fact, I'm very racist because I hate all you lefty white/yellow/light brown/medium brown/dark brown cunts.

BTW, my non pearly white pals agree with me 100% and think that modern racism ploys are for total wankers
