    Default Solid broadband in India

    Hi All

I have a family wedding to attend in India this October. As i can only get 2 weeks of work i will be working the 3 rd week via a net book, i need to be online for meetings and other bollocks...a bit like working from home.
Can some pls recommend a device which i can buy either in the UK or India that i can use for a good 5 hours a day for one week whilst abroad. I need a BB speed of at least 5mg but do not want to pay a fortune.

Can you guys please advise if i can do this for say £50?

    Thanks
    Adam

I am going to my best friends wedding, ill be staying at his family home over there to help out and enjoy the wedding. There are in the Punjab and do not have BB. I have looked into a Dongle but that would cost too much so am looking for a better option.

    Phone in sick !

(you will be if its your first visit to India anyway)

Your maybe better buy a Huawei Dongle here (Argos £14.99)

    Unlocking it here :-

and buy a sim card when you get there depending on coverage.

If work are making you , erm, work. Are they not prepared to pay for the kit and connection?

Whenever I have had to work abroad (admittedly Us and Europe), they give me laptop and connection goes on expenses.

Are there any local business's in the area that will allow you to rent a desk and connection? That would be the next option I would try.

Good luck, sounds like you are heading for a bit of a hard time. Agree with the above, first time india, you may well be needing some time in, near flushable facilities, even if staying with clean family friends. Been there, shat that. All connection aside, friends wedding in India will be amazing. You are heading for the most amazing time.

    Cheers.....Q

    Thanks to QfanatiQ

Thanks guys, to be honest the 3rd week of holiday is not actually due to me so i have begged them for this time and i doubt they would appreciate having to pay my BB costs.
Trying not to think about Delhi belly to be honest.
I would prefer to have a dongle as then i can have more control about the times i login.
    Any recommendations would be great.

I have an unlocked USB dongle you can borrow if you need to, just post it back to me when you get back.

I have never had delhi belly and I have been to India 15 times. I am Indian though. Just drink bottled water (check the seals on the bottles, people are known to refill bottles with tap water), you'll be fine.

    Mr Lang

That is a very kind offer for you to make a complete stranger like me.
Better if you tell me a good dongle to buy and im sure i can unlock it over the net and advise me of a competent sim card as the last thing i want to do is lose your dongle in India.

But many thanks for the offer.
In terms of India im well looking forward to it, my mates from leeds and so his bird, there getting hitched in India as its supposed to me a much better party, cheaper etc so am really looking forward to it.

If you don't want to borrow a dongle I have one you can have. It is an O2 one with sim card. May even be a bit of credit left on there.

    Thanks to Owl

Voda had quite a lot of presence in India last time I was there (Gujarat area). Not sure if they've moved into Punjab though.

It was a bit of a rigmarole getting a sim. They asked for passport copies etc but every Tom, Dick and Harry sells sim cards and top ups.

Sorry I can't recommend any in particular but use the first week to ask the locals what works and what doesn't.

    Thanks to wadgey

Ditto. My cousin got married in Diu (only place in Gujarat where you can legally buy booze) last year. He's from Langley and his missus for SE London. Was a wicked ten days or so.
