This has been taken from Sydmour over at maxconsole so all respect goes to him for this fix
A few poeple have confirmed it working
Looks like the PS3 requires the same fix that the 360's do

It's basically the hot air gun fix used on 360. Same problem seems to be occuring on the PS3, gets too hot and the BGA joints crack when it cools down causing YLOD.
ive had my ps3 just on 17 months now and never had a problem with it, but saying that it hasnt really had that much use to be honest, just hope i dont get this yellow light thing

The CPU and gpu are large ic's which are in a ball grid array package - bga .
This basically means hundreds of tiny ball like terminations in a grid pattern on the bottom of the chip . Instead of a chip with legs . So you cannot access the joints with a soldering iron to reflow them.
Thanks for the info mate
Yep this works! I've done 3!
whats the avarage success rate on this, are they lasting any length of time whne done
