I'm thinking of getting a kindle purely for reading some ebooks i've downloaded in .pdf format.
The books i've got are mainly for teaching dreamweaver, css & photoshop..... do you think this would be suitable for that?
I've read that complex .pdf's dont look that great. If anyone is willing I could send them one of the books and they could check it out for me.... nearly bought one in tesco just now but their electrical desk was shut and i'm wondering if it was a blessing in disguise after reading around the net.

They look alright, some of the small text is blurry but still legible in both books - screenshots do lose a bit of info though as you can see in the screenshots below:

Sorry for the low quality but they were taken on my phone!

Thanks mate, from what you've posted it looks perfect for what I need. Much more impressive than I expected and I'd been lead to believe.

I assume you used Calibre to convert the files?

Got my kindle for Christmas, have hardly put it down, it's fantastic.I''ve dl more than 1500 books, not paid for 1. Took it away to Phillipines for a month where I found out I can access email and bank account through the wi-fi..lol...and mine is not the 3G model. Brilliant piece of kit. One of the 2 best pressies i've ever gotten.

Well I'm off on 2 weeks holiday on Friday and I have just caved in and bought the Kindle 3G complete with the lighted cover case. Just tested out the web browsing via 3G and it worked flawlessly in one of the town pubs where I live. I'm impressed to say the least, apart from how it refreshes between pages and the Blackberry style keyboard, but they are very minor niggles.
Can't wait to test it out by the beach whilst chilling with a nice cold beer or 2 !

I hate to say it but for me, the keyboard doesnt get any easier over time, I hate the keyboard and the terrible UI on mine, it could have been better with a clickable jog wheel like the classic ipods have and the ability to organise its content better,

shove some headphones in your case as well then if its too sunny to read it can read the book to you, although it sounds funny to begin with over time it gets easier to understand

I can't stand the monotonous way the voice delivers the prose but at least you can use it as a very limited MP3 player as well. I Jailbroke mine today which allows you to put your own screensavers and custom fonts on ( not very exciting really ).

I can download books straight from my Dropbox as well which is pretty cool although this is a normal feature for any Kindle.

What really staggers me is the price of books from the Amazon store. They really do nothing to discourage obtaining your books by 'other' means and will probably hurt Publishers and Authors more in the long run.

try changing the speed it reads at and the 'gender' of the voice, unless its on the fastest speed it sounds like its playing at the wrong speed (record player referance for the young 'uns)

I've got the official lighted case and it's perfect for reading in a dark room. Its also useful for finding your way for a piss in the middle of the night

It is like reading a real book. You need a light source to read at night just like a normal book. I would have jumped on the Kindle from day one if not for this fact. Outdoor reading in bright sunshine is where it really shines, but without a light at night it's useless.

I usually read whilst the missus is snoring next to me and it doesn't wake her up.

Yeah I understand it's designed to be like a book which is why I would need a light . I just don't want the bedside lamp on. I presume people are getting books from usual sources ?!
