iphone 4 no sound .... but works on headphones

im trying to ring people but hearing nothing no ringing phone of the person im calling and no sound from any music ive noticed that if i press the volume button it says ringer (headphones ) . if i connect headphones it works i can hear sounds but ive never even used headphones since i got this prob about 20 mins ago .
any ideads please

That usually happens if you have something stuck in the headphone port, fluff or whatever. Just plug and unplug a set of headphones a couple of times quickly to clear.

Had the exact same problem last week. Brought it in to the apple store and they replaced the phone there and then. It was even on firmware 4.0.1 so jailbroke straight away great service.

tried that over 30 times now and still no luck . if i changed the volume of ringer in settings it sorts it out but then it does the same about a min or 2 after .
any ideas people getting thrustrated now :(

Use a needle. The headphone socket is a lot deeper than you might think. That fixed mine anyway

Are you using the official headphones?
Mine stopped when I used 3rd party ones and worked again one I used an official set.

i havent used any headphones at all but i just came back to see replies and the phone seems fine now ,it seems to have sorted itself out , very strange and i hope this aint going to. be. a regular problem ,thanks for replies ,appreciated
