Its an obvious one but have you done msconfig and checked to see what's running on startup?
have you got any external drives/peripherals plugged in? once had an old external hd in mine that caused the PC to hang for ages on startup
I used to get this issue a lot as well, narrowed it down to an issue with my network adapter, as soon as I installed different drivers for my onboard network adapter the issue stopped.
Look in Eventvwr - start, run, type eventvwr and see if there are any problems listed in the system or application sections. IF any app or service is hanging it should mention it in there hopefully.
If not:
Does it do the same in safe mode?
If not, within safe mode, like Greyfox says, clisk start, run then type msconfig.
Go to startup and deselect everything, then go to services, click on hide all microsoft services then disable everything.
Reboot and see how you get on.
IF all is ok, start re-enabling services a few at a time and reboot to narrow down what is causing the issue.
Unplug anything unnecessary. Including inside (extra cards etc).
The process off elimination works wonders.
Malwarebytes?I have run antivirus and come back all clear
Also, black screen - Graphics drivers upto date? Dont use Microsoft drivers for your Card. They are pants.
Obviously Windows Update has updated?
Very vague in your description - I'm guessing Windows 7? Are you using any 'make do' Windows Vista drivers?
Format C:
I did have a cd in the drive for months ! which i have only just realised. So i have now taken out. I did do msconfig, i have unticked the ones i dont need on start up.
I am currently running windows vista, i will try and run update on the drivers, as few months ago inputted another monitor for dual monitors, maybe thats the problem?
