Default To jailbreak or not to jailbreak?

I'm in 2 minds over this whole jailbreak thing.

On one hand, I don't want to see the PS3 ruined like the PSP was because of piracy but on the other I would love to have some cool emulators and other homebrew on the PS3.

At the moment there is only 1 homebrew app and even that is buggy as hell.

    Is it worth doing it?

    do your homework.

..that's like me posting "should I paint my living room green" - it's down to personal preference, and if I don't like it i can change it back.

im jailbreaking just because I can. I'll still buy my games because it means I actually put some time into them and play them rather than just getting them giving them 2 minutes and moving onto the next 'release'

The xbox forum on here is dead to me for this reason, every thread about a game is filled with 'anyone got a nzb' or 'how do i get this working with xxxx firmware' and almost never about the game itself. Im dreading the same happening in here tbh.

I won't be pirating games. I'm all for supporting the developer (being one myself). I don't know whether the cat and mouse game between Sony and the hackers is worth it. It's bad enough I go through it with the iPhone.

At the moment there is no way to connect on line without updating and closing the hole that enables us to jailbreak

Personally I've jailbroken my slim just because i can and i'm looking forward to seeing what emulators come out for it

Dreamcast and PSP have been announced

Also i'm hoping that there is going to be some sort of port of xmbc as that would rock and i could do away with the slow popcorn hour

Already bought another slim from ebay for going online with not that i do but my son is cod mad as wasn't too impressed when i told him the ps3 could no longer go online and no doubt i'll want to play the new cod when it comes out

The sad thing is, Sony could of stopped a lot of this if they didn't shit themselves when GeoHot, using linux, got access. the removal of the option to install another OS was a middle finger to the consumer IMO, so many are out now to retaliate.

I am staying ligitimate, went the flashed route on the 360 and it completely ruined it for me.

Since I've had my PS3 I've never completed so many games, or spent so much time on individual titles. The game I played most on the 360 was Trials HD, which I had to pay for anyway!

im gonna buy a ps3 just because it can be vettled now lol. my 360 is not modded and i use that for online play and all games. nothing on the ps3 really intersts me enough to buy games but i would like a blue ray player, and hell if i can get one that plays games for free and some homebrew as well all good.
Was toying with a acer revo, but not now, will just buy a cheap ps3

I'll open it up for sure BUT I enjoy playing a game to death. I probably only clock-up 1-2hrs per week of game time so any game I get is a well considered purchase. Part of me loves waiting to see if the postman is late or has decided to pocket my new game.

On the flip side there are plenty of games that I wouldn't buy but would like to try. I do this with my iPhone and if I like an app, I buy it. This is no doubt down to price point though. Bit different when a game is £30-£40 so I don't think there is a middle ground.

has any1 got one yet? I held off and ordered some clone ready-to-go dongles from china - if there hadn't of been previous outstanding import duties I would have them by now.
