Default Best pub in your area

So, just sat here thinking about what is the best pub in my home town of Hereford and thought it would be good to compile a list of other peoples choice in their home town.... So here goes.

    Town: Hereford
    Pub: The Barrels
    Location: St Owens Street.
Reason: This pub has been open for many years and always been popular. Its a down to earth pub that truely welcomes everyone. You will feel just as comfortable in overalls or a tux in this pub, all walks of life mingle. Its got a huge outdoor area based on cobbles. The beer is its best feature, Wye Valley Brewery... Popular beers include Hereford bitter, HPA, Butty Bach and Dorothy Goodbody. The bar staff are always polite and service is quick. Its a real feel good pub (not many of those about these days). there is no disco, flashing lights or door men. And yes the women are good looking

^^^^ what he said. The Barrels is the perfect 'local' pub (even though it's about 2 miles from me!)

The Caroline of Brunswick in Brighton is my local, it's the best pub I have ever been in. It's a punk pub, the music there is amazing and the food is brilliant too. Sausage and Black pudding sandwiches etc etc...... Heaven!

Should have gone for a pint at the same time, then agreed with the thread starter.

Just to add, it's also cheap. 2.35 for a pint of Butty (I think the most expensive of the Wye Valley Brewery draught ale), 80p for half a soft drink, 20p for a game of table football.

    The Ferry Tavern in Warrington

Known by many as "The fidlers", dating back to 1160 . Excellent guest ales and a scrumptious whisky bar

    http://www.theferrytavern.com/index2.html

The name Fidlers Ferry dates back to 1160, when the manor of Penketh was in the hands of a man called fidler. The right to have ferry to cross the River Mersey was one of his manorial appurtenances, the ferryman's house supplied refreshments to travellers at that time and became an inn in 1762, now being one of warrington's oldest pubs. Nestling on it's own island between the River Mersey and the St Helen's canal it is in a unique position situated on the trans Penine Trail attracting hikers, ramblers, cyclists and horse riders as they make there way along the trail.

A charming old world inn, The Ferry is light and airy in the summer, warm and welcoming in the winter, there is a large beer garden for summer drinkers and a roaring log fire for winter drinkers.

    Town: Chesterfield
    Pub: The Rutland Hotel
Location: Opposite bus top/Taxi place. perfect.

It's not a case of this being the best pub in town, more like the ONLY place in town that's not utter shite. No yardboy wannabe henleys wearing fucktards, good, traditional beers in one of the oldest buildings in the area. It was recently closed/sold and everyone was expecting it to be replaced with a chrome plated wanker bar but gladly, its reopened and apart from the addition of a coffee machine, its much the same. Its the only pub in the area that offers a huge selection of ales and a few imported lagers, including Hoegaarden.
The only bad thing about it is its en route from the train station to the bus station, so if you are travelling anywhere, chances are you will be dragged in by the temptation of a quality ale, or someone you know stood in the smoking area.

1 minute over the road from me its known as a foodie place but after the summer all locals drink there and it is a nice atmos with open fires and real ale etc.

    http://www.lovelypubs.co.uk/venues/t...lapworth/drink

1 minute the other way great beer garden on the canal always have a strong guest cider on tap

was my favourite unitl the new owners tried their hand at interior design from what they had learnt off of changing rooms circa 1999 and fu**ed the place up before that it was a great drinkers pub with real ale and open wood fire etc. friendly landlord that would do free bar snacks and the odd free pint so have stopped going there

    No decent pubs in heston.

Only one I drink at sometimes is the Rose & Crown because it will close late on the weekends, although you never know what time they actually will close - I think it's just when they've seen enough money in the till.

Not too keen on the place as it's full of all sorts, but I think that's a byproduct of it's location - normally a strange mix of people there, but everyone normally gets on.
