    Default Worst DIY job?

    What's yours?

Mine is replacing a toilet seat.

Your thumbs get raw and almost bloody from twisting those frikking screw connection things. You can never get it straight, and so have to unscrew and rescrew it loads of times...and all the while, your face is right up against the bloody toilet bowl.

    Uuurghh, I fucking hate it.

ha ha, I know what you mean, I've replaced ours 3 times in 7 years. The bloody thing just won't stay in place with two kids jumping on it.
Plus you never know who's pi$$ your really touching do you?

My worst DIY job is the silicone in the bath/shower. I only say that because it's been about 2 years since I baught the stuff to do it and haven't done it because someone always needs a shower or bath when it comes round to it.

Scraping off wallpaper from the ceiling. It's called WALLpaper ffs! You get the steamer on the ceiling & as the steam rises & gives you the sauna effect then when you move the steamer it drips scalding hot water all over your body.

agree on the bog seat one, I've done a few and its not the most fun in the world. Imagine being a council worker and having to do scabby flats n stuff....

Not really DIY, but I helped a friend of a friend move her stuff from a flat to a house and found mountains of cat shit behind the sofa...and..that reminds me....ergh.....I once had to take up the carpet and underlay from an OAPs flat and there was a huge area that stunk of piss n shit. I dont even wnat to know how that got there.

2 TIPS, 1st is oil the screw and bolt every 6-8 months then the night b4 you take it off spray wd40 on it. simple

then lick the seat you know you want to.

    ROFLMAO @ Detector.

Come on guys, spray the toilet seat and bowl with copious amounts of anti-bacterial disinfectant, wipe off and then re-spray it. Wear a face mask too

Worst DIY job for me? Replacing freakin taps on sinks. I mean seriously, how fkin awkward can they be. Even with a basin wrech, they're a feckin nightmare to do.

Changing the bog itself is pretty bad. If you ever do it make sure you flush the sod about 50 times.
Theres always a little turd in the soil pipe that hangs on to say hello when you remove the toilet.

    Feckin gagged while doing that.

for internal cuts its better to scribe rather than to mitre. gives a neat finish and it doesnt matter so much if the wall is out

Have to say I am a bit of dab hand at DIY but I have to agree with the OP. Toilet seats are a bloody pain. My mother who's in her sixties loves to buy things from the Daily Express Readers Offers. She buys all sorts of shit. Anyway the other week she bought a soft foam covered toilet seat on special offer of buy one get one free (why the fuck would you need two !) Anyway I go round to fit it. Take the old one off her bog standard armatage shanks toilet only to find that this made in china soft on your arse wouldn't fit the holes. So I had to put the old one back on. Not nice. She didn't want to sent it back so she sent me down with both of them and some other crap to the Cancer Research Charity Shop.. So be warned..

    Skirting boards and coving yes.

Painting skirting, doors and architraving, well sanding the f*ckers down first, the undercoating and then glossing the bastards. And no-one ever comments - ooh your architraving looks nice, do they!

I am sad to say I've done all the above jobs. But the worst for me was removing the 100 years of paint on the stair spindles. Took me weeks with sanding, dremel for the grooves, more sanding, nitromorse. You name it, I tried it to make it a bit easier. Then when I got to the wood, I found out why there was so much paint, they were all fooked.
After seeing the state of them I even considered changing the spindles, but as it was so old, would have had to basically destroy the banisters too as they were fastened together so sturdily.
So after all that, I filled and painted white. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

Definitely & without a doubt it was removing a lath & plaster bedroom ceiling. All of the nasty insulation & 70+ years of dust & crap just comes down on top of you. I had to replace a bathroom one a few years later because it cracked & fell in, though I would never willingly do one again.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

At the moment were in the middle of renovating the house supposedly before the baby arrives but he's made his appearance 3 months early so really threw a spanner in the works but while doing the hallway I noticed that the cupboard under the stairs was made out of bloody asbestos board. So I had to tent off the whole hallway & wear a set of paper overalls with the wrists & ankles taped up, hood up & wear a respirator remove and double bag up all the asbestos then thoroughly clean everything and double bag all that and dispose & yes it was probobally the hottest day of the bloody year. Now that wasn't a pleasant experience but it was better than paying over two grand to get someone to do it for me

Replacing the coupling where the soil stack meets the ceramic pipe.
6 months after completely gutting and rebuilding the kitchen I noticed black marks appearing through the wall paper... it turned out to be Dry rott 'feelers'

Having built a studded wall around the soil stack, my easiest option to inspect was to cut a chunk out the stud wall, and was greeted by a perished and split rubber coupling and the puddle of waste causing the rot.

I eventually cut out a section of the stack, replaced the coupling and fitted a collar to join it all together....I was retching as I done the job.

    All is good now though.
