Thousands of tickets for Pope Benedict UK visit unsold

The Pope will arrive in the UK for his four-day trip on Thursday

Thousands of tickets remain unsold for events during the visit of the Pope, who arrives in Scotland on Thursday.
The largest organised event is an open-air Mass at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow on the opening day of Pope Benedict XVI's trip to the UK.
The capacity has been reduced to 80,000 after a slow take-up of tickets.
Dioceses in England and Wales have also reported thousands of unfilled places for a London vigil and the service to beatify Cardinal Newman in Birmingham.
Jack Valero, who is co-ordinating the beatification of 19th Century English cardinal John Henry Newman in Cofton Park on Sunday, said: "It is still not as many as expected, although it's pretty full."

He said he expected 50,000 people to attend the 60,000-capacity event which requires a "pilgrim pack" costing up to £25 for entry.
The London vigil takes place in Hyde Park on Saturday.
BBC religious affairs correspondent Robert Pigott says the relatively slow uptake of passes for the big events appears to indicate less enthusiasm among Catholics to see Pope Benedict than they showed for his charismatic predecessor John Paul II 28 years ago.
Pope Benedict is due to arrive on Thursday for a four-day visit, which has already sparked controversy over its cost and relevance.
The cost of policing the trip will be up to £1.5m, the Association of Chief Police Officers has estimated.
A BBC poll ahead of the Pope's arrival found almost six-in-10 British Catholics asked said their faith was not "generally valued" in British society but 70% expected the visit to help the Catholic Church in the UK.
The pontiff will go to Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Birmingham on the first visit by a pope to the UK since John Paul II in 1982.

Looks like evolution might finally be kicking in, people are waking up and realising religion is a load of shit to make money and 'justify' wars.

hhmm, they might be unsold due to the lack of Catholics in the UK at the moment.

    42m Christians (2009)
    1.6m Muslims(as at 2001)
    5.2m Catholics (as at 2009)

Half the people that have actually bought tickets are probably protesters.

Maybe they should rebrand it as "The UK 2010 Paedophile convention" to shift the remaining tickets. An ideal opportunity to get more contacts and do a bit of networking.

if there was a god, and jesus was not a mere story handed down over the years from egyptian times then if you go 'by the book' they say not to worship false idols or worship people instead of god him/herself. yet here we see this MAN prancing around like a king in a fuddy car, no wonder there are so many protesting about him.

the pope is running a BUSINESS/monopoly that says if you dont believe what they do, then your fucked and bbq'd. they are some of the richest people in the world today and hold many properties including some multi million pound properties in new york manhattan yet they still charge you thousands of pounds for weddings and funerals which should be free.

they make all this money on both property and investments
    http://www.ashridge.org.uk/Website/I...Investment.pdf

yet millions of people are homeless in america, uk and all other countries when the church has enough money to house every homeless person and feed them.

then we get to the child molestation.

i know its all been said before but the thing is theres no denying it, the church covered up thousands of cases of horrible child abuse by members of the cloth. by doing so they became as guilty as the original abuser and it shows how perverted and greedy this church is today.

if god were real and jesus were real would you think they would let people set up milliojns of religions and then go about wiping each other out in the name of them?

we are all born atheists, religion is a man made fiction that quite simply has no place in modern society because it gives us nothing in return. we are asked to blindly believe in a man who lives in the cluds singing hyms with a harp who kills unbelievers. it is a form of control, the ultimate control.

Well put, but more importantly... why weren't dinosaurs mentioned in the bible

Godfather 3 has quite a good insight into the business side of the religion.

That also seems to be conveniently forgotten.
