    Question E74 error (1 ring)

Trying to fix my RROD, I booted up, and after taking the console apart, and booting up it seemd to be ok.

obviously this didn't last, and after trying to play a game, it froze again after about 5 mins.

I then got 1 ring of death and a E74 error.

I wanted to buy the RROD kit from neo but they are out of stock (i will wait)

It just tried cleaning the sinks, then re-applying artic silver.

after putting it back together (replacing the xclamps) I managed to unhouse a few capacitors soldering, and bent the board a bit, (those clamps are a f*ker to get back on)

I resoldered the capacitors back, but when booting I still get E74 and 1 ring.

Is this purely down to the CPU and GPU seating of the heatsinks, and would the RROD fix this, should I also get a heat gun on it, or is this in such a bad way that I may have broke components?

I'm not spending anything on the RROD kit, if it's a lost cause.

    any help appreciated.

Have you got a secondary code? Hold the sync button and then press eject. Tell us how many quadrants you get.

    4 lights = 0
    3 lights = 3
    2 lights = 2
    1 light = 1

A typical code would be something like 0102. This means that 4 lights showed up, then 1, 4 again, then 2.

Once you have that, you may be able to find what the specific problem is....it is sometimes inaccurate!

The ram may need reflowing or soldering again. It's been hinted that it could also mean that the ram is overheating. Do you have any Xecuter heat sinks on them?

i've not got any third party cooling on it yet. It does this from cold boot, even before it can get slightly warm.

where abouts is the ram? what is the best way to reflow? I've got a heatgun.. do I give it a blast until the solder gets soft?

I've no experience in fixing these problems mate, sorry if I gave you that impression. I just thought it would be easy to get a secondary code which would help find more results elsewhere. I'm sure heatguns have been used before, but I don't think they're 'recommended' as such.

Sorry if I can't help anymore!
