Default Decent spec cheapish refurbed HP 17" laptops - £329.99 + del

Don't buy one of these as they're incorrectly listed on eBay!! Sorry guys mine just arrived and I found out!

Not sure if these are of interest to you lot but I just ordered one of these for the parents:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

    It's a HP G70-212EM 17" Core 2 Duo - spec as follows:

    Product Number: NG510EA
CPU: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7450 (Not quite sure on this as if it's a P7450 they're 2.13GHz!!)
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GE
    RAM: 3GB
    HDD: 320GB

Not a bad spec for that price - they just wanted a 17 inch laptop and this is by far the best I've seen the last few days. They're ex display models which have been refurbed and have a 6 month back to base warranty but fingers crossed it should work fine

In the link it also says or make offer. And checking in his feedback he has sold some other laptop when someone has had made an offer less than the asking price. So you could be saving an extra £20 or so.

I was offered £310 mate - but as I didn't want to hang about when I saw all the offers go in I just did a BIT - if I'd have waited a few hours and risked it I'd have gotten it for 20 quid less!

get them all the time at my repair shop and because it is a referb i know what they have done.

The graphics card has gone bad and they have re-soldered it back to the motherboard it is a fix but wont last that long really.

Is there an easy way to check if that's what it's had done? They're covered with six months warranty - or is that all that you'd expect it to last?

No problem what they do is the re ball the graphics chip on the motherboard it is a fix. But when i do this for my customers i tell them that it WILL happen again so 9 times out of 10 they put it on ebay. I also give six months guarantee

Cheers for that mate - the one I ordered turned up today and there's something very fishy about it indeed.

For starters - it doesn't match what's on the eBay advert. The laptop itself says it's a HP Q70 - but turn it on and there's a big Compaq logo. Fair enough I know they're one and the same but if it's got a Compaq BIOS it should have a Compaq badge on it!

BIOS wise it thinks it's a Compaq Presario CQ60.

    CPU wise it's also wrong - should be a C2D P7450 @ 2GHz and it's a Pentium T3400 @ 2.13GHz.

    HDD wise it's wrong as well. Should be a 320GB and it's a 250GB!

They've done some serious fucking about with these!

OK I found that the laptops were sold as both HP and Compaq names, but this looks like they've taken the system board from a 15.6 inch Compaq and stuck it in a 17 inch HP case!

Can't find what GPU it is though, might have to fire up Linux and check it out - in fact I'll have a look if wmic is available from Windows Setup.

Good enough reason to send it back.

Even better - its not an Nvidia GPU either - just one of the integrated Intel Gma ones too!
