    Default Windows 7 Student upgrade?

If I buy this can I stick it on a blank drive as long as I have an XP disk or do I need to preinstall XP?

not as far as i know mate (happy to be corrected tho)
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

Really? I don't want to have to do it as it is just a waste of time. How does it work then?

not entirely sure but I've installed Student upgrades many times and the option to upgrade is usually greyed out, just install as you would any other OS and put the key in when prompted...

Not sure whether this was resolved so here's my experience with a Windows 7 Upgrade DVD from Software4Students. When you do a clean install it fails on activation because:

    1) Setup records a clean install with value 1 at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/MediaBootInstall (MediaBootInstall is a DWORD key)
    2) The product key is meant for upgrade installs only

The fix is a piece of piss. Change MediaBootInstall=1 to MediaBootInstall=0, launch an elevated command prompt and type 'slmgr /rearm', then reboot. You can then activate
