    Default Cant play 1080p properly

I have an Acer Revo R3610 it has 4gb ram (3gb useable) windowns 7 64bitwhich i use soley to play films etc on there i can play all films on there no problem apart from 1080p files, they always come up patchy, someone recommended VLC player which i installed it has helped but still runs no where near as smoothly as it should (freezes every 2/3 seconds)

i cant see why this is not working as i purchased the highest spec one so there would not be any problems with playback etc,

I have even purchased an external hard drive to store everything on to help to keep the computer clean.

Anyone know of any decent software that plays 1080p or any tweeks to the system that would help it?

check your cpu usage when running 1080p files, if it's high you're probably not using hardware acceleration, i.e. using your GPU.

core avc or something similar should do the trick. i'm running an asrock 330 which i think is lower spec, and 2gb ram, and 1080 works fine for me.

ahh i just rememebered, you need to download the latest drivers from nvidia for you ion chipset - windows 7 doesn't have them, that should help.

CPU usage is at between 36-40% whilst the physical memory is running constantly at 1.20gb whilst playing 1080p,
im currently downloading the update for the graphics card on the link you provided do you think that may solve it

yeah i cant understand why there would be a problem as the revo is designed for this and its the one with the best spec / graphics card etc,
and the fact it is a hdmi connection kinda suggests that the computer is built for it lol,

lets see what happens i guess

Have a read of the stickies and the big Revo thread at the top of this section m8
    http://www.digital-forums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=189

You need the codecs first then enable DXVA as it's not enabled by default in Win7.
Are u using any Codec packs? The Klite Codec pack includes a tool called Win7DSFilterTweaker which will let you enable DXVA playback using media player/centre iirc

You want XBMC tho FTW (as they say) which is all covered in the stickies and the Revo thread in the section I linked to m8

If your running 64bit Windows 7 why do you only have 3Gb usable RAM?
Stick linux on it, VDPUA is built into the kernel.
This means all video decoding gets shifted from the CPU to the GPU.
At the moment your CPU is doing all the hard work, and the Atom is not designed for this, the onboard NVIDIA VDPUA enabled GPU is however.

Glad you got it working m8
I use the 64bit Win7 that came with mine too, and a version of XBMC for Windows like this http://www.digital-forums.com/showpo...83&postcount=2 for media playback mainly cos of the way it can be set to view/store your media library and cos I use it for other things too that I know the Windows settings for so it was a doddle to setup. Linux/bootable XBMC installs will do the same thing with a bit of work but I can't see the point tbh as it's all working for me with Win7.
Have a read thro the threads I linked to before m8 - there's some great guides on setting up your Revo and personal experiences posted there which should help you decide

64 bit O/S should be able to access all 4gb of RAM. It's the x86 versions that will only access the first 3gb.

I had performance issues (not playing video though) running x64 on my Vaio laptop but that's because the gfx card will use memory from the laptop and it couldn't get any as it was allocated to the O/S. I went back to x86 Windows 7 and it's okay again now.

it's also worth installing the CCCP codec pack as I notice a big improvement on every machine I put that on.
