Xbox 360 Jtag screwed up (possibly)

I handed over my brand new jasper elite with mfr. date 2009-05-30 and dash 2.0.7363.0 to a guy for jtag service on tuesday and tbh I'm getting a bit concerned with how long it is taking for him to sort it out.

On tuesday night he confirmed it was 512mb and exploitable and was using a nand-x to grab three dumps of the NAND. After doing some research it looks like those dumps can easily take an hour to an hour and a half, so I kind of expected that along with his day job I probably wouldn't see the console back until sometime Wednesday/Thursday night.

I text him a couple of times to see how he was getting on and to my absolute horror he'd told me that after flashing xell the console wouldn't power on. He told me that it may have been to do with recently updating jtagtool and would simply revert back to the old version and everything should be peachy. Again this didn't work and the next message said he would try an alt smc hack (which I had no idea about, but after looking around it looked a bit more complicated than the jtagtool route).

The most recent message - last night - says he's tried everything under the sun to make xell/xellous boot and console just won't respond but leave it with and he'll crack on.

So my questions are as follows:

    • Is the console screwed?
    • When the xbox is returned, will it be fitted with the nand-x or is that removed?
    • When the xbox is returned, can I check that it is still 100% the one I sent to him? I have a copy of the serial numbers etc but obviously you can switch a case...
    • Could a different jasper 512 NAND dump be used provided that the KV is extracted from existing dump? Is anything else required?
    • How much longer should I wait for?

Any help is much much appreciated

not in to the jtag nor do i know any thing about it, but as for the serial its in the dashboard anyway so if he swapped cases you would know unless the consonle won't power, as i said don't know any thing about jtag not sure if you can change the serial number, hope you get it back and working.

As long as hes got a good dump then i think not ( dont know what hes actually done tho )
    • If/when the xbox is returned, will it be fitted with the nand-x or is that removed?
nand x is a device for reading/writing to the nand, it will not be with ur xbox.
    • If/when the xbox is returned, can I check that it is still 100% the one I sent to him? I have a copy of the serial numbers etc but obviously you can switch a case...
case can be switched, and also he can flash your kv to another xbox and that will also show your serial.
    • Could a different jasper 512 NAND dump be used provided that the KV is extracted from existing dump? Is anything else required?
no he would need the cpu key, which he hasnt got cause he hasnt flashed xell successfully
    • How much longer should I wait for?
just wait till he sorts it, hopefully

Sounds like he has flashed the wrong smc for your version and dosn't have a clue how to rectify his mistake.

There are a few things to try I Have successfully got of of trouble by shorting the pins on the nand when powering on for reading. (not any pins has to be the data ones not power)

No wanting to sound like a cun t but I still use the old command line method (like in the guide at the top) that way I know what is being flashed and where too, then if there is any foopars I can see where and why.

He should be able to flash back the original image (or the fisrt 66 meg) that is the "image" size and is should boot when it is flashed back to stock.
Flashing the first 5 meg should be enough to cover xell though.

Thanks for all the information and support guys I really appreciate it. The only thing that put me off doing the jtag is soldering as feel comfortable working with the CLI and I read and re-read the sticky guide!

Still not heard any good news from the bloke yet so going to drop him a call now.

Yep that's the exact bloke good spot thanks Ted. Eek?!

EDIT -> Noticed that others were asking about the history of the console so here goes: it's brand new from Morrisons and has been switched on once to run through the first run wizard.

Not down the bog mate, it was working when you gave it him, so unless he is a complete cunt, he should take it on the chin and replace the unit.

I would hope so anyway considering he advertises these services as "business" in his sig and through his website.

That would definitely be the most reasonable thing to do Had no phone call yet but will report back when he lets me know the bad news.

Got a text about 30 minutes ago to say he has ordered a Cygnos this morning. After a quick bit of reading I can only assume it's a Cygnos360 v2 (rev F) as that is the only big block NAND compatible equipment they make.

They used to offer an extra NAND for dual booting but it appears that has been scrapped in favour of console NAND only. Provided that the NAND shortening trick he tried hasn't screw up the Xbox then this alternative programmer looks promising. Fingers crossed and all that.

OK so this morning I got a call and the guy is certain my console is 100% dead. He's offered to return me the Jasper that's knackered and then give me a Zephyr with the guarantee that should it RRoD it'll be fixed for nowt. Gutted that this brand new Jasper has been shafted, but then there's the possibility of a jtagged console...

sorry to hear that m8, people should never dick around with other peoples hardware unless they are 100% sure what they are doing (nevermind charge people)

edit: btw do u mean hes replaced it with a jtagged zephyr or just a normal one?

His website indicating the services available made me think he'd be more than capable. It's a jtagged zephyr

See if you can get the original dump from him that he made and the jasper and i'll have a bash at it for you if you want

Would rather have a jasper machine than a zephyr anyday

Thank god you got one of the good guys. There is always a chance that this will happen and I am betting most people would have just dropped off the face of the earth rather than sorting you out.

Top fella in my opinion. He tried, and failed and then sorts you out?? Can't say better than that. Even Microsoft aren't so cool about RROD repairs these days
