    Default Gallstones

Anyone had gallstones? I have been in some serious pain last few months, bad attacks , sickness etc. I went for a scan yesterday and was told I have lots of medium/large gallstones. As I was referred by the local doctor the hospital now sends the results to my doc for him to then refer me back to the hospital ....crazy I know!

Anyone had experience? Is it keyhole surgery?

The consultant at hospital seem to hint that instead of 'putting up' with the pain if it gets real bad get to A & E as this might help speed things up but hospitals do my head in!

I've just been diagnosed with kidney stones, well went to docs 2mths ago but only just today seen the Urologist with all my results etc...

I have 2 stones, one is 1.4cm the other is about 0.6cm, and he says I can have them smashed but there is a risk of them blocking me up, so best course is to pierce my kidney and go in and pull them out.

They first have to test my other kidney to make sure it works as there is a risk I could lose some/all of my "stoned" kidney if things go bad (infection, bleeding etc).

1 week in hospital, 6 week recovery - not good

I thought it was just a routine thing, tube up japs and smash/pull em out, am still in shock atm I think....pretty fucked up...

Good luck with your gall stones btw - sorry for the thread hijack.

Had mine out last year mate - I'd been having attacks for over two years but never went to see the doc as had just assumed it was bugs going around, bad hangovers or food poisoning but then all of a sudden I couldn't eat or drink hardly without it coming straight back up - not even water when it was at it's worst! Went to see the docs and they spent a month saying it was probably a bug and to go home and rest! After a month they did bloods and as soon as they got the results rushed me into hospital which I did find amusing at the time!

Ended up in hospital for a week and they misdiagnosed it as imminent liver failure and problems with my pancreas - the doctor was a right prick and kept saying was I an alcoholic - after a few days of this I asked about gallstones and he said it was at the back of his list as he didn't think it would be gallstones but what do you know - it was packed to bursting point and they'd gotten stuck in various places! The fella in the ultrasound said it was the worst he'd ever seen in his time there. The problem by then was that it was massively infected and inflamed I think they said as well as other organs in a state so they put me on antibiotics and I had to just eat really basic food groups like a toasted wholemeal pitta bread with low fat cottage cheese. That was all I could eat for two months as they had to wait until things had started to look a bit more normal before operating. Even then I still spent most of the time in the bathroom!

The op itself was a Godsend - I went in first thing on the Tuesday morning I think it was - 7am and was off my tits on the oxygen and morphine by lunchtime post op! Something went Pete Tong as it did split when they tried to take it out but they reckon they got all the stones out but saying that I've got a problem at the minute which they can't identify - I've got to wait another couple of weeks before they can refer me to the specialist at the hospital.

Saying that immediately after was fantastic - put it this way I had the op Tuesday and I was sat in Nandos on the Saturday eating extra hot chicken - very strange sensation but I've been great since.

Have to stay away from red meat now as I really struggle to digest it but apart from that it's 1000 times better - I only tend to throw up if I've overdone the beer but get the mean shits at the minute but that's down to whatever I've got wrong with me now! Everyone's different afterwards - some people can literally eat anything whatsoever and have no problems and others suffer big time - you can't predict these things. I love my spicy foods so I'm just happy I can have those and just stick to pretty much chicken. I won't go into details but you might want to google 'dumping' I think it's called as I've had that happen a few times - basically you eat and then within a very short timeframe you need to literally run to the toilet otherwise you will shit yourself - makes me laugh when it happens! Had it happen in Vegas and that place is the best place in the world to take a shit - even funnier when it sounds like something out of Close Encounters!

The op was keyhole - small cuts to the top of your chest and inside your belly button area and then two small nips towards your right hand side where they stick the instruments in I think - you can't see those any more so I've just got a couple of small scars.

Pretty common op from what I can tell - I just wish I'd have gone for a check up two years earlier as it would have saved me a lot of grief in that period as they could have just whipped it out!

Hope you guys all get on alright and in the meantime stock up on some good soft loo roll as you're going to need it!

That must be nasty - kidney stones are supposed to be about the worst pain you can have - and make sure to tell that to the mrs as birds who've had them reckon they're worse than giving birth!

No amount of painkillers are gonna help if they move and get stuck mate, get yourself to the doctors.

I was pissing blood, that's why I went to the docs (still am when they moves) and it's still taken em 2mths to give me results etc, so you may as well get the ball rolling.

    reverend: Glad your better mate.
The thought of them "puncturing" my kidney gives me butterflies...but as you say, pretty routine op I'd guess, I'm hoping their warnings are to cover worst case scenarios.

so just out of hospital after going in monday night. i was seriously ill monday, skin turnt yellow and was rushed to hospital. After 2 days on morphine wednesday i had the op and they took out 2 big stones that they kept and three medium stones that are around 3/4 inch in size. there was loads of small ones too (photo can been uploaded if you want to be grossed out).

Since the op my immune system shut down so ended up in there still on morphine and tramadol, cybezibe (sp?) plus lots of others. wounds slightly infected so finished a antibiotic drip this morning and now at home on list of drugs. At least the op was done i suppose and no waiting list etc.....

sorry if spelling mistakes, using iphone at the mo lol....

someone I know at work had some small stones and he had to pee them out apparently.

(not sure how true that is) said it was murder getting them out of his japs eye.

I would imagine they're kidney stones which i believe are very painful.

Yep that's kidney stones for sure.
I could have had mine blasted by shockwaves into fragments, then tried to pass them out me japs, but the doc said they cannot guarantee the size of the fragments and so they could get stuck somewhere while trying to pass.

This means I would need an op anyway, and then there are loads of tiny bits to get that can get stuck, missed and cause infection and complications, so just easier to have the whole thing out and know it's all gone.

Just got my date for my kidney scan (next Tuesday) where they have to put dye into me to test my good kidney is working ok in case anything happens during the op and my kidney-stoned kidney packs up.

Jacko: Sounds painful mate but that's not a bad bit of holiday is it
