Xbox 360 MS advises against 'clutter' for Kinect

From [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]:

Microsoft has warned that messy floors "with clothes all over the place" will prevent Kinect from working properly. Better have a quick tidy.

The company also advised against putting the sensor in "a noisy environment", using the examples "on top of your Xbox" and "on top of your subwoofer".

"We rely on the floor for a number of different parts of the technology," said Mark Plagge, Kinect's senior project manager, during a set-up video.

"The ideal play space starts about six feet away from the Kinect sensor. Some games will need you to move side to side quite a lot, so you'll want to know there are three-to-four feet on either side of you."

The requirements don't stop there. People with halogen spotlit rooms may encounter difficulties, as the Kinect sensor prefers an even light source throughout.

Sounds fair enough! Might encourage the kids to tidy up round here - "no, you're not feeding your pet tiger until you tidy the bloody room". Works for me

That ends up needing quite a big space. Be interesting to see how it works in the real world

surely the camera will be able to differentiate between non animated objects like a table or a floor full of skiddy kecks and a 32 year old 18 stone bloke flapping his arms about? The issues with halogen lights apply to the wii too.

its the same with the ps3 eyecam.
my kids play eye pet alot & if the room is dark & stuffs on the floor the game does suffer.
the camera needs good lighting so i think the 360 will be the same or very similer problems..
when lighting is good & no crap around its fine..

what a load of shite, do MS think the target market want some dreary old bloke whittering on about RGB cameras and so on? They seem to struggle to leave the techy crap behind and focus on the games..which are where exactly?

Well, from that video there's a million and 1 pitfalls to this thing... also.. the LAG is still very evident if the short piece with the guy playing the game, almost to the point of it not even being him controlling the onscreen man is anything to go by... Not good...
