Slow usenet downloads - VM

Hi guys,

got VM 50MB package and when using Newsleecher and Astraweb from home the max i am getting is 2.8MB however when i use the same setup at work im getting over 8MB, obviously theirs no problem with newsleecher or astraweb dealing with the speed so definately something to do with my home setup.

I contacted VM who sent out an engineer (after 4 months i might add) to test the line and he downloaded some files from VMs server that did come down at the expected 6MB, however when again i use usenet its only coming down at 2.8

anyone had this problem and know of a fix?

Setup is as follows:

50MB --> VM Cable Modem --> VM Wireless N Router --> 24 Port Switch --> PCs and XBox's

if anyone has any advice i would be very grateful

i assume u got the right amount of connections set right in your usernet program??
u tried another program?(i use newsbin pro)

hi mate,

yeah got 20 connections and i have used newsleecher at work and it goes over 8MB with the exact same settings so i cant see why it would be any different

personally i would plug the VM Cable Modem direct into the pc then try

you haven't throttled the settings in your download manager have you? You know limited the speed? I know I do on my server in Newsleecher so it doesn't take all the bandwidth, check the options mate...

tried all 5 astraweb servers (SSL and non-SSL), speed limit is set to none and have just deleted all settings and re-installed the latest Beta versioin but still the same

looks like i will have to try plugging in direct and see what i get

I ended up getting a new modem from them because my speeds were all over the place.

Phone them up and you can get though to premium support with 50mb and you do not have to deal with the numpties.

I had same problem as you .

I altered the connections to these im with astra this gives me 5.9 meg

5 ssl main

5 ssl usa

10 ssl eu
