    Default laptop screen problem

    Well lads,

Got an HP Pavilion zv5000, the screen seemed to be flicking off, and I could hear some sort of electrical sound coming from the laptop, bit vague I know but anyway.

I replaced the inverter, and it seemed to be working fine for around 30 minutes, now its doing the same thing again. the screen dims, hear a sort of electrical sound then it goes completely.

If I press down the button to turn of the screen when the laptop lid is closed, the screen will pop back on.

Dodgy connection on the motherboard where you removed the leads to do the inverter... OR the lid switch is not connected properly.

Crackling noises are generally always a loose connection. Strip it again and make certain the connections are good. If they are, check the solder joints.

    --EDIT--
AND makes sure to put the lead through the hinge in the right place. Many atime I've put them back wrong, closed the lid and cut the lead!!

I'd have said it was the wire being pinched in the hinge as well,

    okay, got the laptop back.

checked the wires going between the connection on the motherboard and the screen, all look fine.

turn laptop on, boots okay, will stay on for about 5 minutes, then i hight pitched noise comes from the inverter ( i think ) then the screen cuts dims and cuts out completely.

if I press down the button to knock the screen off and release it, it will come back on, but very briefly before knocking off again.

from feeling the plastic cover on the inverter the actual coil part of it feels to get very warm, but, given what it does, I would assume that this is normal.

Anyone got any ideas, it could just be faulty replacement inverter. I think the guy said he picked up a refurbished one, so, if they were to test it, it looks like it would be fine.

Sounds like a bad inverter, yes they do get very hot, and be carefull touching near it, it can give you a kick.

Don't touch it when powered whatever you do mate! Try turning your brightness down and see if that does anything. If all the connectors and cables are fine then I would suggest a replacement inverter.
