Emachines e525 keyboard problem..

hmm..
hi, right I've got this e525 laptop here and it has a strange keyboard problem...

it will not type the likes of...

!"£$%^&*():@<>? etc..?..

the rest of the characters work fine which makes me think it's not hardware.. I've reinstalled keyboard drivers (launch manager) set the keyboard to UK etc but with no luck....

any ideas folks please? as I don't have a replacement keyboard to try..

Try booting a linux live distro, Pupply or DSL for example as they are a small download.
If it works under one of them then it's a config issue in Windows and not hardware.

You've not got the Num Lock switch on have you?

no spillage?
worn out keys?
if you got it 2nd hand or you are repairing it for someone.have thay had it apart & damaged the ribbon cable on the keyboard?

If it's just the shift it'll be the keyboard, if there's 4or5 not working it'll be a track.

okey cokey.. keys 4 & 5 working so..

booted to pupply live cd.. still no luck with the characters.. guess this means new keyboard eh?
