There have been rumors of a third Ghostbusters installment for years now, literally. Bill Murray has gone on record in the past stating he wants no part of the film. And let’s be real, without Bill Murray, Ghostbusters just isn’t Ghostbusters.
Now, whether or not Murray will be involved in the project, original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd has released some news that could prove to be quite awesome, if all cards fall into place that is.
Speaking with Vanity Fair about the film, Aykroyd stated, “I’m working on a script now.” He also praises the first script written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, which Murray didn’t think to fondly of.
What exactly “working on” means remains to be seen. Aykroyd may be making modifications to the script, or he may even be rewriting the entire thing.
Dan also informs Vanity Fair that fellow original Ghostbuster Harold Ramis is definitely interested in approaching a new Ghostbusters feature, “We have a strong first draft that Harold and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it.”
With two key characters expressing serious interest, the old Ecto-mobile may well see action again in the future. At least, this writer is certainly hoping so!
