Softmodding Wii

I've got my sisters Wii here to softmod, it's current on 3.4E ... Can I softmod on this or should I update it first?

Also, once softmodded will it play a game from a DVD-R or should I use a loader? Which loader would be best? My sister hasn't got a USB HDD at the moment... it's easy for me to burn some games for her.

theres a thread with the EXACT same title below yours, with some of your questions answered already, plus we have a great sticky that will hold your hand through any softmodding. please have a look at those threads before asking the same questions.
