Default Tmobile Or Orange FREE Upgrade To Use Both Networks

Following the merger of Tmobile and Orange in the UK (to Everything Everywhere)

From 5th October 2010 you can jump networks when you don't have a signal.

Really does maxmimise your network coverage by utilising both networks and it's a free upgrade.

    Taken from Tmobile website:
Fancy talking and texting in more places than before

Now you can sign up to pick up a signal from Orange when you don't have a T-Mobile signal so you can call and text in even more places.

can't see this being a signup process for long..

..wouldn't really call it a free upgrade either, more like getting what your paying for. (use of your operators masts - just so happens your operator has just aquired alot more)

although I can see how it could be handy to certain people to have the option right now

Im on Orange pay as you go so for me it will be handy as I get a poor Orange reception at work so might get a better one with t-mobile

EDIT:- Just got to work and I get a better signal now I can use T-Mobile

I was literally about start to signing up our work phones on that link when I got a text saying "Hello. Just turn your phone off and on again so you can enjoy calls and texts in even more places, using signal from both Orange and T-Mobile"

Hmm, I thought I would sign up anyway and got another text saying "Hello. We're sorry, we've had a problem with your request. Please call our customer service team so we can sort this out for you."

Strange - it will connect to tmobile masts but if I connect manually it says Orange-T Mobile and I get no blackberry service. Also once this is done even if I change back to auto it doesn't seem in a hurry to get back on Orange. Also I suspect (but not totally sure yet) if it changes automatically it just shows up saying Orange and I get blackberry services. Weird - can anyone else confirm?

Has anyone managed to get data working across both networks (2G or 3G). voice is all well and good, but I can't seem to connect to the internet at all when i'm on the orange (t-mobile orange) network, surely I don't have to change the apn settings as well when i change network?

I'm on orange and roamed on to "orange t-mobile" today when in Huddersfield, it was seem less apart from a tone from my phone to tell me i was roaming, I then got my emails and looked on facebook, so it didn't appear to be a problem. Unless billing will screw me

    Taken from their website:

"When you use Orange's signal, you'll be using the 2G network, which is mostly used for talking and texting
You might get some basic, slow internet and data services but they work best on 3G signal.
So, just wait until you come back onto T-Mobile signal to do your 3G stuff."

Data services will be crap when using the orange network in other words

    Also from their website:

"Normally when your phone switches, it's because you're using your phone abroad, or 'roaming'.
So when you're using the Orange network, your phone thinks you're roaming outside the UK, and might warn you about charges.
Don't worry, you will only pay UK charges while you're using your phone in the UK."

I've got an update - today I've seen my phone happily switching between networks - when on Orange (home) it just says Orange and works fine. When it's on t mob, it says Orange - T Mobile with a funny symbol, I get all services fine even though the little blackberry sign doesn't pop up.

Haven't had a single question from our 100 odd bb users so I'm guessing mine may have gone a little moody yesterday just because I was continually pissing about with settings to see what would do what in which circumstance, left it alone today and it behaves nicely

I just can't wait till they let us use our 3g data sticks on both networks. £15/month for unlimited access, even when we've run whole sites on them. Will be a proper bargain when we actually get reception on them!

Edit: Didn't get any texts for missed calls all day until 16.53, if only that could be adjusted to 17.01.
