Lol I'm totally with bb on this. I want to mong on the sofa horizontal with a cold beer and a controller. Fuck leaping about after 12 hours at work

Since I had the opportunity to have a play with the technology based on the hand controlled screens in "Minority Report", Kinect's appeal is like a bicycle to an F1 driver...

I'm not really excited by it at all. Time will tell how good it really is I guess.

What I'm more interested in is (as I said above).. 5 yrs time, with 3D becoming the norm and 3D games taking advantage of the tech to just up the immersion levels of certain games.

    ie.
    Kinect + 3D Projector onto a 12ft wall...
Something like Heavy Rain, where your walking around, talking to the characters, looking "into" the world and feeling part of it cos it's all in immersive 3D.
Imagine BioShock, Resident Evil or Condemned...where your literally "inside" a scary as fuck house/mansion/forest and having to survive, pick shit up, knock things over, look round corners etc.
    * Looking round corners would need the head tracking technology that was shown aaaages ago *

Admittedly the games will have to be made for 3D/Kinect/TrackIR etc and they will have to be done properly and not the usual "tack it on at the end" the way most games are atm, but it's just gonna be a matter of time before your in your front room feeling like your part of something else.

I am a sucker for narrative driven games, so this is what I want to happen, but I can definately see a need for a controller of some sort to help navigate round these worlds when using Kinect.
I don't fancy having to walk on the spot to move around!

    PS. HD 3D Porn...lovely!

I would agree if it was true 3D and not what they are pushing at the moment that is just tricking the brain and will no doubt in years to come be linked with everything from parkinsons to brain tumours not forgetting the short term motion sickness effect it has.

Is that really a advantage? What about the lack of buttons and the fact MS recommend that you stand whilst playing?

Yeah totally agree mate, right now it will be very gimmicky and not used to it's full potential at all, same way consoles take 2-3yrs to see games that really push the hardware to the max.

    In 5yrs though...

End of the day you gotta pass judgement once you have your own hands on it. Fair play to the op if hes played it and liked it but im gonna save my own judgement till i have played it myself.

I am just not that taken by any motion sensing technology but I am 33 and set in my ways.

Well I'm looking forward to it even more now thanks to Parsnips little review! All this "oh it wont be like holding a gun like you would on the Wii" is kind of moot, because I'd be amazed if we didn't start seeing stupid little plastic peripherals come out with games - I mean the Wii wheel thing is just moulded plastic, so why not do the same for Kinect games? Im sure games will come out that enable you to use a combination of control methods, so for instance Gears 3, you shoot by pressing a button, but crouch by hiding behind your sofa like a demented 3 year old watching Dr Who. Hey, it appeals to me ok

I've no interest in Kinect at all. I don't really care whether it works well or not, the games are too wii-ified for my tastes (i mean childlike) all the games at launch (or the ones i've seen) use wii-miis, sorry... avatars and they are just gay.

How are you supposed to control forza using that then?

You can sit down to play it as well as would be expected for a racing game. A good mate of mine who was very dubious about Kinect like the majority of us has had extensive hands on with it at his Games conference and he thinks it's the Tits and has swayed me into pre ordering one

so you hold your arms at 10 to 2 to drive it? You ever get told off by your teacher and have to put your hands on your head for 10 mins? It ached like hell after 5 mins... Your arms will get knackered holding them up for the length of some of the races you get on those type of games.

Would imagine you would be able to prop your hands on your knees or something. These Forza developers are no mugs that's for sure. You sound like you want it to fail Russ. It might turn out shit but at least give it a chance.

I agree but like I said the Forza team are no mugs so will be interesting to see what they do. If it wasn't playable I don't think they would bother tbh.

Here is a look at Zune on the dashboard

And another racer which I have seen played real time but can't find the vid for
