    Photos Fishing for stars

Taking a break from scantily-clad ladies in studios, I took a wonder into the mountains last night, hoping to get some decent milky way shots, but didn't prove too successful, still far too much light pollution even in the wilds.

I'm off to Iceland again next month so hoping to get something special over there.

This one was taken at the shore of the lake in Nantlle, annoyingly cars kept driving past illuminating parts of the scene which I didn't want, grrrr. Also the torch I had was way too powerful, so kept blowing out the mist near to the shore, will try again with a less powerful torch, later at night

This one was taken from the shores of Llyn-y-Drywarchen near Rhyd-Ddu, I got another i'll need to upload as i left he camera, same position but me driving the car up and down a road below, making some light trails

    Thanks for looking

get yourself a Fenix torch - small, and have different light/power settings.

The settings are pretty limited - 3 settings on mine + a strobe mode. They are quite expensive, but the most powerful setting blows me away everytime (especially considering the size of it) Think i've got a PD30 R4

How about some shots of Orion next time you're out bro? Would love to see how you capture the nebula

The last shot is truly epic! I'll look forward to seeing some sets from Iceland later this year

OT but my mate in Scotland got some wicked shots of the Northern Lights last night. I didn't even realise you can see them in the UK.

@cyprus, i've tried to get the orion nebula a few times, but never managed anything more than a smudge. I'm going to sell my current telescope and buy a new one after Christmas, something tailored towards getting DSO images and not planetary ones like my current telescope.

@livesey, yes, you can see them from Scotland if the conditions are right, the lucky sod. I've been looking at some ones that contacts from Iceland have had recently and it's wetted my appetite. I went there last year but failed to get any aurora because of the weather

Thanks guys, glad you like em. It's been a while since I did any night photoraphy, mostly because summertime's rubbish for it and it never gets dark enough (and we had a crap summer which was constantly cloudy ).
