Default PDF Ebook Reader - Advice

Right I want to buy an EBook reader. £100 ish

The most important feature for me is the ability to read PDF's without needing to convert them to another format.

Im thinking the new Kindle does this though I've seen in the local "we buy any crap" a job lot of small Sony looking devices which may do it to.

Anyone played with a Kindle or have a better sugestion ?

have a look at these three threads m8 the first one for more info on the kindle and the latter 2 for content for it, there are a fair few of us on here with a kindle and while there are alot of people who like it, its not perfect for the money though the £109 wifi only kindle is hard to beat

these 2 are more stuff to go on the kindle/ereader later down the line

I didn't keep my Kindle simply because I already have an iPad AND a Sony PRS-505, at the price though it's a no brainer, Kindle all the way.

The only thing I would say is that if most of your PDFs come from A4 sized documents, screen size may be an issue since you're looking at a zoomed out PDF. Of course you can zoom in, or use the Kindle in Landscape format and read each page in two parts, but frankly that is a pain. It would be much better if you got a >10" device like an iPad or Kindle DX since you can view the PDFs at almost native size. However with your budget being what it is, you ain't going to find one

Yeah echo what GTI said, I've got a kindle, and i love it, but not for pdf format.

There just doesnt seem to be a great option for pdf reading. Ipad possibly the best option, but even then heavy and shiney screen

Thanks all. All good points made there. As its main use would be for viewing PDF's I think I'm going to try out the Kindle tomorrow and see how I get on. What the native format for it as I might look to conversation of the pdf's I have?

from memory I think its .azw but if you use calibre to convert just set it to output the files as .mobi and you'll be fine

There is no debate m8, if you only got £100 ish, then it's a kindle or nothing despite the fact that it doesn't have the perfect screen size for pdf's

its not kindle or nothing there are ereaders from about £70 and upwards on play.com saying that neither of them that are less than £100 look any good and they both have tft screens rather than the e-ink kindle screen

you could get one cheaper than a kindle but they'res not much point

which translates into exactly what I said:

as the OP said he has £100 ish to spend.
and you just said the others don't "look any good" and "there is not much point" buying them
I think if the OP posted here looking for advice, we can assume he doesn't want a crap one, so unless you know of a "better one" for £100ish, then the kindle is the clear winner.

just because they dont look any good and there isnt much point in buying one of them over a kindle doesnt mean he has to buy a kindle, theres no harm in showing him what else is out there especially considering the cheaper ones have a colour screen which pdf's would exploit

personally I bought my kindle and have been happy with it ever since but there will be people out there that look at the kindle and think no thanks I'll have the cheaper one with the colour tft screen that can play video
