disc read error

hi got a 360 arcade the sonic one which is only just over a year old now its not modded in any way but it wont read any disc, dvd, cd or games will m$ sort this out or will i have to say its rrod or e74 error

if its out of its 1 year warranty then MS wont repair it for free, i would just send it back as a RROD and get them to replace it, if they send you the same one back you contact them and say that your disc drive no longer works since its been sent back to you

Don't waste your time sending it back to MS, depending on the drive your looking at as little as �6.95 for the laser.

If you need it sorted tell me what drive it is and i'll order a laser for it if you cover it and postage. Just take the drive out of the xbox for shipment. I'll even sort it out for you before i return it back if your keeping it offline.

thanks guys, requested repair under rrod told the lady that it some times gets 3 red lights or displays e74 and some times it goes to the dash board but wont do anything apart from play demos or arcade games she said they will test and replace drive if needs be. not to bothered about time for repair as its only my kids xbox and there are 4 to choose from so he won't be without 1.

Dude I had this issue and fixed it myself. Could be a completely different though and your xbox could be fooked.

Try a game in your xbox with the HDD taken off and see if it recognises the game and reads fine, if it does then re-attach your hdd and see if it works then mate.

I had a similar issue and for some reason it was because of the hard drive

its making a grinding noise and the fans are louder as if they are loose. m$ should sort all porblems out, as said above there are 4 more consoles to choose from so he wont be without one, i would repair my self but with it not been opened id rather let them do it.
