Default Getting an iphone - what tarrif

I have a SE W955 at the moment, but also just purchased an iphone.
    I have Online 10 24 month contract, which is £10 a month,
how much more would i have to add to it to be able to use the iphone? Could i just get away with adding the £10p/m o2 data 1GB bolt on? So my new price would be £20p/m ??

Or what would be better, and work out cheaper in the end ?

Does your contract run out soon?

I use a SIM only plan from three at £15pm for 300 minutes xnet, unlimited texts and 1GB internet in my IP4.

It's still got 1 and half years lol , as i only got it in march. . Thought it would just be the case of putting my sim in the new iPhone like most .

Did you you get it SIM free, e.g. purchased form the Apple store? If so then you will be able to do that. If not then you'll have to either a) get it unlocked by the carrier or b) use one of the jailbreak/unlocking tools just released.

The iphone was bought from someone who had o2 and i'm on o2 too...
When i put the sim in i got a message from o2 stating that i was not on an iphone tariff, and if I continued to use, i may incur data charges...

You can get a bolt on for your o2 contract for a fiver for half a gig of data, that's what I did as I had a palm pre contract and was over 6 months so took my tarriff down one notch and added the bolt on which means I pay the same as I did before.

I had to phone them in order to set it up and they did it straight away.

They definitely do, unless I've been lied to by o2 and my bill is going to be sky high!

I'm paying £30 a month for my personal iPhone 4 with 3. 500 mins, 5000 text, 5000 3 to 3 minutes, 1gb data. Phone was £99 for a 16gb one but went thru Quidco and got £64 cashback.

Also got another iPhone 4 on Orange for work but cannot remember what the deal is with that one but it ain't as good as the 3 deal.

I'm paying £35/Month with Vodafone. Includes 1200 Mins, Unlim Txt and 1GB data/month. My iPhone 4 16GB was £119 (Covered by sale of my old 3G) on a 24 month tarrif.

I was always with BT Cellnet/O2 and had no issues, switched to T-Mob in 2005 and no issues until the release of iPhone 4 I switched to Voda and they've been OK too, bar the lack of 3G in my local town.

If you don't mind changing your number then you could get a 30 day Tesco SIM only contract and save a fiver a month: £10 a month for 500 minutes plus unlimited texts and 500MB data (thanks HUKD ). It's the second deal down.

Tesco uses the O2 network so signal strength won't change. Confirmation that a Tesco mobile SIM works in an O2 locked iPhone over on AVForums (but you will have to cut the SIM down to micro SIM size).
