moan Smoke Alarms - Low Battery

Ok, wot cunt invented the low battery beep on smoke alarms?

Whoever it was, they must have been a complete and utter sadistic arsehole because I can think of no other reason why these beeps are so utterly annoying other than by design....

    1) Why do they always start beeping at 3am? I have never known one of these beeps to start acting up at 6pm when I am watching tv

    2) Why is the beep interval such that it drives you mad? You wake up after the 1st beep thinking "did i just hear something?", then just enough period of silence passes to convince you that it was a dream and you just about starting to drift off again when it beeps again!

    3) Why is the beep so loud and none directional so its virtually impossible to tell where it is coming from? Leaving you standing on the landing at 3am, freezing your tits off, trying to figure out if the beep is coming from the landing smoke detector or the downstairs one... of course you have to wait 5 fucking minutes for the next beep to grace itself!

    4) Fucking square 9V batteries? WTF is with that??? 1970's radios and cheap RC cars are about the only thing that uses those fuckers... what exactly wrong with AA's????

I got the fright of my life the other night. I have a combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector. It doesn't beep, it talks !!! And yes I'll confess that when the "Warning Battery Low" alert came out at 3am, I was up up like a shot, grabbed the baseball bat and was mid sweep of the house before I figure out what was going on.

They are fucking annoying, we've had to put up with ours bleeping for the last fortnight because we didn't have a ladder to get to it and even if we did, I'm not climbing up a ladder at the top of a set of stairs.

Have you thought about getting a mains one fitted, Yes they are battery backed up, but as they run off the mains power the battery is seldom used so lasts for donkeys.
